It is with heavy hearts that the family of Delbert Clarence Munroe announce his passing at the Sussex Health Centre on July 29, 2025, at the age of 83. Born in Sussex, NB, on September 18, 1941, Delbert was the son of the late Clarence and Greta (Kincade) Munroe.
Delbert was a man known for his unwavering work ethic, deep love for the outdoors, and unmatched ability to fix just about anything.
Part of his unending hard work was his career of over 20 years as a purchasing agent with PCS Mines, retiring in 2006. Prior to that, he worked for more than two decades in the parts department at Lawson Motors and later found great joy in being the go-to handyman for All Seasons.
A lifelong outdoorsman, Delbert loved to fish and hunt and took great pride in teaching Hunter’s Education to the next generation. He was an original and lifetime member of the Sussex Fish and Game Association and one of the first members of St. John Ambulance in the area. He also spent meaningful time working with the Kennebecasis Watershed Restoration Committee, helping preserve the natural beauty he so loved.
Delbert had a passion for sports and rarely missed a game when the Toronto Blue Jays or Toronto Maple Leafs were playing. He loved a good round of Crokinole, a big laugh, and could tell a story so elaborate and entertaining that, whether or not it was all true, you always hoped it was. He would finish his more elaborate and questionable ones with his signature line: “Tell your friends!”
One of his proudest projects was restoring his 1957 GMC truck he rode in as a boy on the farm—a symbol of his deep-rooted love for family, heritage, and good old-fashioned hard work. He was a proud member of the Antique Car Club, where he enjoyed sharing stories and swapping ideas with fellow enthusiasts.
Delbert was always willing to lend a hand, give the shirt off his back, and help anyone in need. His kind and generous spirit left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Joyce (Sullivan) Munroe; their children: Michael Munroe (Christine) of Plumweseep, Shawn Munroe (Krista) of Apohaqui, and Angela Carter (Allison) of Sussex; his beloved grandchildren: Alex Munroe (Lachlan) and Jenna Munson (Bailey); his brothers: Darrell Munroe (Ann) of Dutch Valley and Archie (Gladys) Munroe of Sussex Corner and by his sister, Marilyn Alward (Bob) of Portagevale; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Delbert was predeceased by his brother, Leonard Munroe.
He was proud of his family above all else, and his legacy of laughter, storytelling, and service will live on in the hearts of all who had the joy of knowing him.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where a visitation will take place on Sunday, August 3, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8pm.
