The Stewart Family would like to announce that their mother, G. Eleanor Stewart is together again with their dad, her late husband, Avery Adelbert Stewart. Gertrude “Eleanor” Stewart was born April 15, 1931 in Black Point NB, a daughter of the late William and Dorothea (Miller) Anderson. She passed on March 18, 2026 at the Kiwanis Nursing Home.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter Cheryl Stewart of Dartmouth, NS; sons: Brian Stewart (Carol) of Sussex Corner, NB, David Stewart (Kathy) of Sussex, NB, Ron Stewart (Liz) of Halifax, NB; grandchildren: Josh (Jenna), Julie (Travis DeWolf), Charlee (Jeff Parfit), Braelyn (Colby), Mitch (Lorrie), Alex (Andrew); great-grandchildren: Rhea, Aubrey, Ada, Jackson, Carter, Boden, Emri and Sasha.
Eleanor and Avery both grew up in the North Shore of New Brunswick. Eleanor in Campbellton and Avery in Tide Head. Their love for the area was shared with their growing family visiting during the summer months.
Eleanor had many interests and passions in life. Besides looking after her children and trying to keep Avery happy, she was very proud of her nursing background, obtaining her RN designation from Royal Victoria Hospital Training School for Nurses in Montreal. The lifetime bonds formed with her friends in nursing were so important to her.
Eleanor loved her gardens in the backyard, playing bridge, and golfing almost every day in the summer months. The winter months she dedicated to her real passion, curling. Besides being a member of the Sussex Golf and Curling Club, she curled a lot in her favorite city, Saint John. She coached high school girls curling and built lifelong friends, young and old.
Eleanor's greatest achievement in curling was representing New Brunswick at the Canadian National Women's Senior Curling Championship twice. She adored her grandchildren, and when the great-grandchildren started arriving, the gleam in her eye and the love in her heart kept growing with every new addition.
We will all miss her dearly.
A special “Thank you” to Penny Kelly, her long-time friend and caregiver. Also the family would like to thank Scenic View Special Care Home and the Kiwanis Nursing Home for your care of our Mom, and Rev. Jenn Brown for her many visits.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, 506-433-1176. In keeping with Eleanor’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date in the Kirk Hill Cemetery.
