Stephen Everett Smith was born in Apohaqui, NB on July 10, 1947. He was the son of the late Lillian Smith (Southgate) who passed away in 2015, and the late Everett Smith, who passed away in 1987.
Steve was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch #20.
Steve could growl and grumble louder than anyone and would give you the shirt off his back at the same time. He loved his breakfast at all seasons, visits to the Legion, and his drives to Fundy Park for his clam dinners. He could also prepare his own hearty meals at any given time.
Steve worked for Subservice Surveying, later cleaning the mines, and Pope's Farm.
Mr. Stephen Smith of Sussex passed away at the St. John Regional Hospital on March 19, 2026 at the age of 78, with family by his side.
He will be remembered by his sister Joy Brown and her husband Donald of Apohaqui, his brothers: Randy Smith and Paul Smith and his wife Debbie, all of Sussex; his nieces and nephews: Crystal Gray (Pat), Misty Roose, Melissa Roose (Shane), Matthew Brown (Julie), Lucas Brown, Jeremy (Anna), Geb McLaughlin, David Wark (Charity), and Doug Wark, as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
Steve was also predeceased by his brothers: Gerry and Roger; his sister, Starr; his sister-in-law, Darlene and his niece Joy Buchanan.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, 506-433-1176. There will be no service or visitation. He will be laid to rest with his mother, father, brothers, and sister in Pioneer Cemetery, Penobsquis, NB.
