Obituary of Cherry Field

It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Edna “Cherry” Field, 98, of Sussex at the Sussex Health Center on June 10, 2021. Born in Leyton, England on July 18, 1922, she was a daughter to the late James & Emily (Franklin) Taylor.

Cherry served in World War 2 in the W.A.A.F. She came to Canada as a war bride, she arrived at Pier 21 in April 1946 on the ship RMS Aquitania. She came to Sussex from Port Williams Nova Scotia, where she left behind dear friends, Lorna and Dodgie. She later resided at Sussex Corner Lions Villa for 33 years.

She was a member of the Sussex War Brides Club, Sussex Lionettes and the Women’s Bowling League. She bought a trailer at age 74 and stayed at the Mohawk Campground, Grand Lake for 17 years next to her good friend Marge. She had several trips to England to visit her family, the first being in 1955 with her children for two months for a grand reunion with her family.

The family wishes to thank Mercy Burge and staff at scenic view special care home for their wonderful care and dedication, it was like a second home for Cherry. Thank you to Dr. Brian O’Neill for his compassion and thoughtfulness.

Cherry is survived and sadly missed by her daughters, Lorraine McQuinn of Sussex and Gloria (Seth) House of Picadilly; her grandchildren: Tara McQuinn, Shane (Molly) McQuinn, Jeremy (Toni) House, Miranda (Will) Thomson and Emily House; her great grandchildren: Quinn, Jacie, Brody, Jahnee, Jordee, Parker, Zack, Zoe, Finn, Luke, Braxton, Kiara (Alex), Caden and her great-great grandchild, Yazmyn; as well as several nieces and nephews from Canada to England.

Besides her parents Cherry was predeceased by her brothers: James, George, Leonard, Jack; her sisters, Flora and Frances; her son in law Aiton McQuinn and the father of her children, Donald Field.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (433-1176). Due to Covid-19 all arrangements will be held privately.
