Mrs. Powell was my first piano teacher. She was patient, encouraging and kind and wouldn't ever let me give up when things got tough. I remember being terrified of her big, but friendly dog. She selflessly encouraged me to find another teacher when she felt that she taught me all she could and knew I had more to develop as a musician. We reconnected and corresponded as adults and I cherished her letters. Whenever I came home to Sussex, she would often stop by for a visit. I'm thankful for her encouragement, her knowledge, but most importantly for her friendship. Rest well, you good and faithful servant.
