Apohaqui has experienced "the end of an era" with the passing of LeRoy Armstrong. I will miss his daily visits to the Apohaqui Post Office. He always had a cheerful greeting - be it a quick hello, the discussion of a morning newspaper item OR a story of his younger days - his, much loved, family, working the woods, trucking, fishing, hunting and of course politics. LeRoy was a colorful man with strong values, beliefs and genuine concern for his fellow man. May he rest well surrounded by his loved ones who have gone before him.

My father, Joe Edson, always spoke highly of LeRoy and I remember my brother Paul working for him and with him during those "woods years". Then, years later, I looked forward to seeing him when he came into the specialty clinic and always enjoyed our reminiscing. He was a special man, a special friend and he will be so very much missed. May your beautiful and fun memories and stories keep him close to all of you...... and when our family thinks of him we will always...........smile.

Family of Leroy,
We were so very sorry to learn of Roy’s passing. I have so many memories of growing up next door to Roy, especially during his younger years. In his teens, he worked on our farm, and bought his first car. He got into a few scrapes with that car. I look back on those years and chuckle, as would he. He was a good man who worked hard. Always kind, but never backed down if he felt he was right. He will be missed. Hold his memories close to your heart. Please accept our deepest sympathy.

I am saddened to hear of LeRoy's passing and want to express my sincere condolences to his many loved ones. May the loving memories you have of your dad, grand and great-grand dad give you strength and comfort through your grief, sadness and loss. Glen, Beryl and Bernice sending my love and hugs. You are in my prayers as you miss the company of your brother in your daily lives. What a life LeRoy lived. The many tributes and the beautifully written obituary leave no doubt as to the great impact he had on so many. I have great memories of his visits to my childhood home in Belleisle Creek. We loved listening to LeRoy and my dad (his Uncle Frank) debate whatever issues were in the news such as upcoming Elections and the horrible roads. Lots of laughter and sometimes a bit loud. LeRoy was in his late teens then. I was not surprised when as an adult he dove into politics or that his siblings were right there working and cheering him on. LeRoy never changed over the years and always had time for a quick catch-up whenever our paths crossed. LeRoy, hope you are enjoying a great reunion with all our loved ones in Heaven.
Until we meet again cousin Leah Marie

We were shocked & saddened to hear of Leroy's passing. I can only imagine the tremendous pain & loss you are feeling.
The loss of Leroy is being suffered by the whole community. We have lost an icon.
He was so proud of his family as he loved all of them dearly. When he lost the love of his life, Anna, he carried on, by "working" to relax. .Leroy was an activist and there was no such thig as "it can't be done". I always looked at Leroy as being the epitome of what voters feel a politician should be. He will be missed.
Our thoughts & prayers are with you and we , the community, thank you for sharing him with us..

We considered both of them to be our special friends. We thoroughly enjoyed our talks whenever we would meet and he never failed to amaze us with his thoughts & opinions on a variety of topics. He was incredibly proud of his family, taught them all a very strong work ethic and expected them to exceed everyone's expectations. Respectful, hardworking, compassionate, powerful, intelligent, well-known, caring and family-oriented are just few of the adjectives that come to mind when thinking of LeRoy. To all of the Armstrong family we are so sorry to hear of Leroy's passing . Thinking of you all at this time in our thoughts and prayers. He was a great community leader, but he will be missed at family dinners and the great stories and conversations. He loved his family and was very proud to talk about the boys and all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren and what they were up to.

It is never easy to lose someone.
Leroy was, as you have stated bigger than life.
A presence hard to fill. An 'avid' card player,
which I had the joy of being both his partner and as
his opponent (crib also). Will miss his 'thumping'
down the cards. Rest in Peace, Leroy. You are now with
some of your other loved ones.
To all the family my, MOST SINCERE CONDOLENCES.
Take care -
Love
Walt

I have a lot of memories flooding in as I reflect on my interactions with Leroy. We moved here in 1977, and I always thought of him as the Apohaqui Legend! And he was! When we returned to re-start the little Apohaqui church in 1996, Leroy could not have been more supportive. He fought to get us government grants as we invested in area families, He fought for us to avoid an unfair provincial land tax (a battle neither of us won!) He got us a truck load of Quartzitec tile “on the cheap” for the new church. And he cheerlead again and again the work we were doing in the community. We sat in many meetings together and Apohaqui was always his NUMBER ONE priority! I remember talking to a few MLA’s when Leroy was in government. They all said - “It doesn’t matter what the issue is … the only thing that Leroy can see and cares about is Kings County! Every issue becomes a fight for Kings County!” He represented us SO well! On one occasion he asked me to nominate him for the next election. I was so honoured by that and told him so. But said, unfortunately Leroy - in my job I really can’t identify with red or blue because I preach to all colours every week. He understood completely. I was just so honoured to be asked by the Legend!
The world has lost a bright light and heaven has gained a star! Leroy will be missed! He was one of a kind. Sandra and I send deepest Apohaqui sympathies, love and prayers! Unfortunately we leave for Alberta early Sunday.

We are very sorry to have learned of Leroy's passing. Your dad was an unbelievable asset to his community. He fought for what he felt was right for all, not just himself. He was always an advocate for Apohaqui and all of Kings County. Leroy was a great friend and neighbor. He will be missed by all.
