Obituary of Eloise Adair

It is with deep sadness that the family of Eloise Yvonne Adair announce her passing, which occurred at her residence in Picadilly, NB on January 30, 2025. Born in Hillsdale, NB on January 7, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Harry Melbourne and Edna Victoria (McGivery) Buchanan.

Eloise went to school until grade 7, and her mother then gave her bus fare to go to Saint John and find work. She then began working at Red Rose Tea and came home on the weekends, which is when she met her beloved husband, Jimmy Adair. They were married in 1956 and moved to the homestead in Picadilly. One year later they had their first child, Chrissy, who was born at home. Marty was born three years later, followed by Robbie and then Lesia. Eloise was a stay-at-home mom until the kids started school, and then worked as a waitress at various restaurants. She served at the Timberland for 29 years, retiring at the age of 65.

Eloise was feisty, caring, proud and protective of her family. She would tell you how it is, but had a heart of gold. She loved her family deeply and instilled many traditions in them over the years. She was very involved in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives.

She loved watching her “soaps” and Coronation Street. She enjoyed reading, journaling, cooking, shopping, and going to music shows. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She always enjoyed a chat and cup of tea with family and special friends.

Eloise is survived by her children: Christine Frits (Dave), Marty Adair (Donna), Robbie Adair, Lesia Jonah (Brian), and her “adopted son” Steven Bacon (Bonnie) (and their children, Jaclyn Folkins (Ryan) and Kendall Bacon; and grandchildren: Asa and Tait), all of Picadilly; her grandchildren: Amy Landry (Troy), Cole Frits (Sarah Gallant), James Adair (Kate), Joey Adair (Becky), Mark King (Lesley), Shawn Smith (Jenn), Amanda Tupper (Zack), Elisha Adair (Landon Bruce), Colton Jonah (Sherry), Jessica Parlee (Colby); her great grandchildren: Cooper, Isla, Ember, Ivy, Karter, Conner, Piper, Ryleigh, Declin, Maddie, Ryker, Aria, Levi, Ryder, Rae-Anne, Emmerson, Griffin, Luke, and Connor; her siblings: Zeta Seely (Eloise’s partner in crime) of Hammondvale, Doreen McGouey (Robert) of Hinton, AB, Melvin “Buzz” Buchanan (Barb) of Hammondvale, Judy McKinnon of Sussex, Randy Buchanan of Hammondvale, and Carol Dempster (Ralph) of Upham; her sisters-in-law, Darlene McFarlane, Connie Buchanan, and Marina Buchanan; and her brother-in-law, Marty Chown. Eloise is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Eloise was predeceased by her loving husband, James; her siblings: Morris, Melbourne, Joan Chown, and Valarie; and her brother-in-law, Lloyd Seeley.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Eloise’s homemakers and friends: Dianne, Susan, Cindy, and Charlene. They also wish to thank the Extramural nurses who gave such excellent and compassionate care to Eloise.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) from where a visitation will take place on Monday, February 3 from 1-3; 6-8pm. A Celebration of Eloise’s life will take place on Tuesday, February 4 at 11:00am from the Wallace Community Chapel.
