Obituary of David Bean
Having finished a life well lived, David Clifton Bean of Sussex Corner, NB passed away peacefully at home on Monday February 3, 2025. He was surrounded by the family that loved him after a valiant battle with cancer.
David was born in Saint John, NB on January 3, 1943, to Bernard and Ruth (Rock) Bean. He was a graduate of Saint John High School. While at a dance when he was 19, he would meet the love of his life, Joyce (Hurley) and they would go on to build a wonderful life together, marrying on February 15, 1969. The following four years saw them increase their family with children Alison and Steven. David was fortunate to find his vocational pursuit early on in life, and his journey as an accountant led him from Saint John to Moncton NB, New Glasgow NS, finally settling in 1980 in Sussex NB where he would go on to retire as the Administrative Superintendent of the Nutrien Potash mine.
Throughout his life, David held a keen focus on two prominent priorities, caring for his family and serving his community. As a family man, David’s life revolved around making memories with his family whenever possible. While there were vacations together, camping trips, adventures with friends and the like, there were also the simple day-to-day priorities of just doing life together - running errands, supper around the table each night and being a part of our community together. As a papa, David looked forward to every opportunity to soak in time with his grandchildren whom he adored. In regards to serving his community David invested his life through Kiwanis (he was a proud Kiwanian of over 40 years), the Sussex Silverado's, serving in various roles at church (Trinity Anglican), starting and leading the Aktion club in Sussex, a long term board member with the provincial St. John Ambulance, active on Sussex Corner village council (deputy mayor for a season) and numerous other boards, committees and not-for-profits that served the community he held dear.
David is survived by his loving wife of 55+ years, Joyce, children Alison Gallant and Steve (Maggie) Bean, his grandchildren Michael Bean, Cory Bean, Grace Griffin (Avery), Jacob Gallant and Tyler Gallant, his brother Robert (Pam) Bean, sisters-in-law Bernice Dignard and Betty Fry as well as several nieces, nephews and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara Puxley, stepfather Malcolm Redding and brothers-in-law David Fry and Marcel Dignard.
Our family would like to thank Extra-Mural, Sussex, for the extraordinary services which enabled us to keep him home as he finished the last miles of the journey. Our thanks to the care of Dr. Stephanie Ward, Dr. James Michael and all the other physicians and nursing staff who offered kindness and helped David along the way in recent years.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6 at the Wallace Funeral Home (34 Sunnyside Dr., Sussex) from 2-4; 6-8pm, with a funeral service on Friday, February 7 at 3pm from Trinity Church, 853 Main St., Sussex.
