Obituary of Stephen Parlee
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that the family of Stephen Douglas Parlee announce his passing on February 22, 2025 at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 68.
Born on a base in Germany on March 17, 1956; he was the son of the late Elmer and Velma (McGinnis) Parlee.
Stephen was a loving husband and father, and papa. He cherished his time with his family; especially his time with his grandchildren, they were the apple of his eye. The three things that summed up Stephen were the love he had for his wife and kids, the love he had for his grandchildren and the love he had for God.
When he wasn’t home, Stephen and his family were in Saint Martin’s at the beach. He loved it there and while they were in Saint Martin’s, they would always stop by and say “hi” to Billy.
Stephen also loved going to Yogi Bear every year with the family especially the Yogi Bear Campground in Nova Scotia so he could say “hi” to his brother Eddie, Audrey and their daughter.
Hockey was Stephen’s favourite sport. And while he didn’t enjoy the cold arena, he enjoyed watching his kids and grandchildren play hockey. He always encouraged them to try their best and to have fun. You could usually hear him screaming “SKATE” at the top of his lungs.
One thing you could count on with Stephen when you visited or saw him out - he always had stories to tell you. He loved to laugh and joke and always had something to say.
Stephen looked forward to his daily phone call from his sister, Kathy and regular catch up with his brother, Albert.
He will live on in the hearts of his loving wife of 42 years, Patsy (Nelson); their children: Doug Parlee and his wife Vanessa of Millbrook, Natalie Parlee, Amy Parlee and Stephen Parlee all of Picadilly; his grandchildren: Saxon, Brianna, Callie and Blake; his siblings: Ed Parlee and his wife Audrey of Middleton, NS, Albert Parlee of Quispamsis and Kathy Gailey of Collina; his brothers-in-law: Ernest Nelson and his wife Myrtle of Apohaqui, Eldon Nelson of Norton, Ralph Nelson and his wife Sharon of Sussex and William Nelson and his wife Annalyn of St. Martins; his sister-in-law, Sandy Nelson of Fredericton; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Richard Parlee; his brother-in-law, John Gailey and by his in-laws: Donald and Helen Nelson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) from where a visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 from 1-3 and 6-8pm. A Celebration of Stephen’s life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 11am with Major Stan Folkins officiating.
