Obituary of Jean Thompson
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mrs. Jean Adeline Thompson announce her passing at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on February 28, 2025 at the age of 90.
Born in Apohaqui, NB on September 19, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Menota Viola (Sproul) Floyd.
Jean graduated from Norton High School in 1952 and took a local license and taught school grades 1-9 for 3 years. Soon, she married, Robert Simpson and had six children. Together as a family they all worked very hard on the family farm. Jean worked in the garden, the hayfield and the cow barn. She never sat idle and when she did get a chance to sit, she was either knitting or sewing. Her faith in God and always being able to believe, He never gave her something she couldn't handle gave her the strength to embrace each new day. Her kids were the pride of her life, raising them to be good people, work for a living, be honest and love life was always her main focus.
Jean was a strong and independent woman and taught her children to be the same way. When they were growing up Jean instilled the importance of family and spent endless hours with them. She would not allow anyone to be bored, she insisted they play together, worked together, get along but most importantly go to church and to Sunday school. Jean always thought she would have liked to go to school to become a teacher so she could do more for her family. Robert passed away in 1992 and in 1997, Jean married Murray Thompson and Jean embraced her enlarged family with open arms.
Jean made the best mustard pickles, loved her violets and her grandmother clock, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, reading, and traveling especially to Newfoundland and Niagara Falls. She was a member of the Millstream United Baptist Church since 1959 where she taught Sunday school and Daily Vacation Bible School, she was the Sunday School Treasurer, a member of the Parsonage Committee, Pulpit Committee, Young at Heart Group and the WMS, and served as Church Clerk. In later years she enjoyed taking her grandchildren to town.
