Obituary of Alan Hill
With love and gratitude, we share the passing of Alan Hill. He passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, at Kiwanis Nursing Home in Sussex, NB, surrounded by his family.
Alan’s parents, James Hill of Muirkirk, Scotland, and Margaret Burns of Ayr, Scotland, immigrated to Canada and settled in Hamilton, Ontario, where Alan was born. His love of football began there while selling peanuts in the stands at Hamilton Tiger-Cats games.
Football brought him to the East Coast when he was recruited to play for the Saint Mary’s University Huskies. He met Bonny Jean MacIntyre in Halifax, and they were married in 1986. They settled in Bonny’s home province of New Brunswick, where they raised their daughters and shared 39 happy years of marriage.
Alan worked in sales and service, primarily in the fitness industry. He loved sports, coaching and playing football and lacrosse. He enjoyed Sunday family feasts, wing nights at the Timberland, and spending time outdoors camping and hiking.
He is survived by his wife, Bonny Hill, daughter Kelly Margaret Saunders-Hill and daughter-in law Carolyn, daughter Aimee Kathleen Hill, sister-in-law Marybette Hill and niece Jaclyn Hill (Sarwat Yaman) of Hamilton, Ontario, siblings-in-law Donna (Joe) Monahan of Sussex, Patricia (Jim) Ackerman of Sussex, Bill (Cathy) MacIntyre of Riverview; Cathy MacIntyre (Ulric Fournier) of Sussex, and several additional nieces and nephews.
Alan is predeceased by his parents and brother, Ian James Hill of Hamilton, Ontario.
The Hill family will be at home to receive visitors on April 30 from 4-7pm. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
