Obituary of George Daley

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late George Conleth Daley announce his passing on April 30, 2025, at his home in Penobsquis, NB. Born in Atholville, NB on June 20, 1939, George was a son of the late Charles Albert and Theresa (Furlotte) Daley.

George was born in Campbellton NB and grew up in Atholville where, his father worked at the sawmill. He was the third child of Charles and Theresa Daley but grew up as an only child as his siblings were 13 years older.
His father died when he was 15, so it was just him and his mother for a few years. They made donuts to help make the ends meet. He joined the Navy in 1958 serving on several ships including the Restigouche, Columbia, Fraser, and Assiniboune. He met Elaine in 1962 when Uncle Harry brought him home for the weekend, and they married in 1963. George and Elaine raised 4 kids in Lower Sackville, NS. They were very involved in the community including the Winter Carnival. At the end of his Naval career, we all moved back to Elaine's hometown of Penobsquis. Dad started work at PCA in 1982 as an electrician and then later in the control room where he loved getting phone calls asking him the time. In Penobsquis, he was a founding member of the Penobsquis Volunteer Fire Department in 1987. Dad loved his 4 kids, 8 grandkids and 17 great grandkids, but not at the same time please. He was also a Toronto Maple Leafs fan just to make it interesting as Elaine was Montreal Canadians fan.

Besides family, George was predeceased by his pets Oscar, Clancy, Holly and Buster. Survived by Chico.

George is survived his loving wife, Elaine; his children: Jamie Daley (Kara-Lynn Stone) of Penobsquis, Sandra Mason (Marty O’Donnell) of Berwick, Jeff Daley (Barb) of Penobsquis, and Shauna Langille of Moncton; his grandchildren: Krystal (Brandon), Spencer (Stephen), Allison (Jordan), Jennifer (Brendon), Jordan (Tyler), Alexander (Jasmine), and Matthew (Emily); his great grandchildren: Harmony, Ryker, Isaac, Andrew, Benjamin, Silas, Ivy, Tianna, Billi, Elizabeth, Elena, Zackry, MacKenlee, Tietje, Lennon, Tucker, and Case. George is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his grandson, Jonathan; his daughter-in-law, Julia Daley; his sons-in-law, Charles Langille and James Mason; his brother, Coleman Daley; and his sister, Madeline Schmidt.

Special thanks to his homecare workers, Extramural nurses, the wonderful care he received at the Sussex Health Centre, also Dr. Ward, and Rebecca. You all hold a special place in our hearts for all your kindness to dad and to all of us.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where a visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 7 from 3-5pm. A celebration of George’s life will be held from the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church (114 Church Ave, Sussex, NB) on Thursday, May 8 at 11:00am.
