Over forty years ago I was hired by NB Power as a twenty day casual for vacation relief for the pole crew in Sussex. Two weeks later Rick came back off his vacation and Gordon went out on his.
Rick struck up a conversation about my experience. I admitted to him I had none and didn’t know much about the job.
He grinned “ Just watch and learn, don’t be afraid to ask questions”. By the end of the day we were talking a blue streak.
Rick quickly became a friend and not long after he was more like a big brother. Almost five years we worked side by side. Became close, laughed together, made fun of each other, solved the problems of the world, and yes at times argued like brothers. Few hangovers on the road and a few after hours.
I have never seen a more proud father when Becky came into this world and he indeed had a millionaires family when Stephen came on the scene. His family was his life. You could see it in his face when he spoke about them.
Rick was a true friend. He never judged. He would offer his advice when he felt it was needed. He would simply listen when he felt that’s all that was necessary. We laughed, got ourselves in hot water at work, and entertained each other. Pulled practical jokes and took it on the chin when I reciprocated
When I moved on to the line trade we still maintained that bond. Stopping to chat at the lake after he retired when we had opportunity.
Janet, Becky, Stephen. I have no words that i I can say other than I will not morn Ricks departure, rather I choose to remember his life. How he affected mine. Remember all the good he did. All the lives he touched. I will miss the big wave and the roar when I drive by but I still will look for it.

Janet, Steven, Becky and all who love Rick, Ellen and I send our most sincere condolences. Since Rick and I shared the ballfields often as players and umpires, I got to know what a fine man he was. He worked hard, played hard and loved his family above all. We especially enjoyed being fans together watching Kevin and Steven play baseball, cheering and loving the fun we had on the sidelines. Getting to know the Grass family was great, allowing us to chat happily whenever we met.

To my dearest friends, the grass family it’s gonna be some hard to hang around the lake and have to barbeque now for ourselves lol Rick always did that and he was good at it.
