Obituary of Gary Gordon Howe
It is with deep sadness that the family of Gary Gordon Howe announces his passing on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the Ridgewood Veteran's Wing Liberty Lane in Saint John, NB. Born in Stratford, Ontario on March 8, 1937, Gord was a son of the late Joseph and Margaret (McMurphy) Howe.
Gord is survived by his children: Lisa Vienneau (Marc) of Fredericton, NB, Lynn Howe of Saint John, NB, and Monique Howe (John) of Sussex; his grandchildren: Sean, Erik, Bradley, Ben, Anna, and Lindsay, and his great grandchild, Reginald. Gord is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Gord was predeceased by his wife, Amanda (Robichaud), and his brothers, Douglas, Gerald, and Thomas.
A proud veteran, Gord served many years in the military as a dedicated member of the Black Watch. After his service, he continued his commitment to community and camaraderie through his involvement with Legion Branch #20. In his later years, he embraced entrepreneurship as a small business owner.
A true social butterfly, Gord was known for his love of cards, bingo, and pool. He never went anywhere without his cribbage board and took great joy-often a little too much-in beating his opponents. Whether at the Legion, a local gathering, or simply out and about, he made fast friends and left lasting impressions. Gord was a simple man with a kind heart. He was always quick to lend a helping hand, especially to anyone in need of a ride-he was there, no questions asked. His generosity and willingness to help others were simply a part of his nature.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Liberty Lane and Ridgewood Veterans Wing for their compassion and care, as well as to his personal chauffeurs: Tia, Jo, Brenda and Dot. Additionally, the family would like to extend their appreciation to the many kind-hearted individuals who offered him a lift throughout his daily travels. Special gratitude goes to his dear friend, Mindy (Minda), for her enduring friendship and support.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). In keeping with Gary's wishes, all events will be held privately.
Donations in memory of Gord may be made to the Sussex and Area Senior's Centre, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #20, or a charity of the donor's choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through wallacefuneralhome.com
