Obituary of Gordon Bickerton
Mr. Gordon Bickerton was born on June 9, 1920 in England, he was the son of the late Arthur Gordon and Amy Elizabeth (Cox) Bickerton. He came to Canada at a young age where he was raised on the Bickerton family farm on the Parleeville Road. Gordon went overseas during the Second World War and it was during this time that he met his wife, Mary Deegan. They were married in 1943.
He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, a member of the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise's) Association and was closely associated with the regiment's mascot, a horse named Princess Louise, taking her on many regimental parades.
Bickerton’s Garage, situated at 39 Marble Street (formerly known as Maple Avenue Extension), Four Corners was owned and operated by Gordon from December 10, 1960 to February 22, 1985. He was an exceptional mechanic and autobody repairman.
Gordon loved spending time with his family. Favorite memories include numerous hunting and fishing trips with his sons, both locally and trips out west.
Gordon and Mary loved hosting at their favorite spot, Crawford Lake. Whether it be gatherings of big meals with family and friends or teaching their grandkids to fish, hunt and 4 wheel.
He will live on in the hearts of his family, his sons, Michael and his wife Barbara of Parleeville Road (Bickerton Family Farm), John of Gambo, Newfoundland; brother, Allan Bickerton and seven grandchildren: Michelle Newburn and her husband David, Jamie Bickerton and his wife, Erica Gorman, Jeffrey Bickerton and his wife Wanda, Laura Clark, Scarlotte Baker, Dana Douthwright and her husband Brad and Jennifer Simon and her husband Shanon; nine great grandchildren: Kurtis, Cameron, Brooke, Sam, Carly, Anna, Charlotte, Sophia and Dawson; as well as a niece and several nephews.
Along with his parents and his loving wife, he is predeceased by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Joe Butler, sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Bill Finley, his sister-in-law, Viola Bickerton.
Mr. Gordon Bickerton of Sussex passed away on July 04, 2025, at the age of 105, at the Ridgewood Veterans Hospital.
The family would like to thank Ridgewood Veterans Hospital staff for the five years of exceptional care they provided to Gordon.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). A service celebrating Gordon's life will be held at Wallace’s Funeral Home Chapel, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 11:00 am, featuring a Legion Tribute at the beginning of the service.
