Obituary of Betty Byers
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Byers on July 9, 2025 at the Dr V A Snow Centre. Betty was born on June 24, 1936 in North Clones, NB., the youngest daughter of the late William (Bill) Henry McCullum and Edith Elizabeth (Elder) McCullum
She is survived by her daughter Susan Alcorn & her husband Stephen of Belleisle Creek, two sons, David & his wife Tina of Kingston NB and Donald & his wife Beverly of Beaverdam NB, her sister Grace Pugh of Fredericton Junction and her brother, Ronald and his wife Judy of Hoyt, NB, her brother-in-law Wes Cosman of Grand Bay Westfield, NB, sisters-in-law Doris Mersereau of Fredericton Junction, NB and Janet McCann of Harvey, NB, grandchildren; Danny (Keshia Bundred) and Sarah (Quincy Hall) Alcorn, Michael (Rebekah London) & Emily Byers and Jennifer (Rob) Lentz, Devin, Brad and Luke Byers and great grandchildren, Joey & jack Byers, Grady & Fisher Lentz and several Nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her loving husband Freeman Byers, her Great-granddaughter Kallie Byers, her brother David McCullum, her sister Florence Cosman, her brothers-in-law Lawrie Pugh, Treston Mersereau and Bernie McCann and her sister-in-law Beryl Norrad Tracy, brother-in-law Fenton Norrad and brother-in-law Kenneth Tracy.
Betty was passionate about her nursing career that spanned from 1957 to 1996. The majority of her nursing career was at the Saint John General Hospital but she also served at the Oromocto Public Hospital. During this time, she was also an instructor of the RNA program at both Saint John & Fredericton Community College Campus’. Betty was an active member of the Trinity Anglican Church ACW and cherished their fellowship.
Our family would like to express our most sincere thanks & gratitude to all staff at the Sussex Health Centre for your kind and compassionate care of our mother during her 16 week stay. To all staff at the Dr V A Snow Nursing Home in Hampton, we will be eternally grateful for your kindness, care and compassion. Over and above doesn’t come close to describing the care and compassion we all received during the past few weeks. Mom loved it there and truly enjoyed her short time with you all!
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) from where the visitation will be held form 4:00 to 7:00pm on Monday, July 14, 2025. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Trinity Anglican Church (853 Main Street Sussex). The private interment will take place at the Blissville Cemetery.
