Obituary of Mike Halpin

Michael Gordon Halpin

It is with deep sadness that the family of Michael “Mike” Gordon Halpin announces his sudden passing on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Born in Saint John, NB on May 24, 1978, Mike was the son of Pamela Dugay and the late Lloyd Halpin.

Mike was such an incredible man who had so much love and kindness to share with the world. The same world has truly lost one of the good ones. Mike was known by many names…”Cab Over Mike” … “Magic Mike” to name a few. But mostly, there were no names he wore better than Husband, Son, Brother, and Friend. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His favourite project was his old truck and could fix anything with some know-how and YouTube. Mike never wore a watch but lived solely on “Michael Time”. He loved his music and had many instruments that he taught himself to play, again, with the help of YouTube.

Nearest to Mike’s heart was his beloved family, his beloved nieces, and his dogs. He cherished time spent around the table at Sunday dinners, family get togethers, and with his father-in-law, Don. The time he spent teaching Hayden anything Hayden wished to learn were invaluable to him. Mike never had children of his own, but would have made a great dad. Mike spent the majority of his working years as a truck broker, but also loved his “work family” at Friars’ Excavating.

After marrying Samantha, Mike’s family expanded even more. He came into their lives with quiet strength and a heart full of love. In the short time they knew him as family, he showed what it meant to love deeply, to cherish every moment, and to live with purpose. His love for Samantha was radiant, pure, unwavering, and true.

Mike held his mom, Pamela, near and dear to his heart. She wasn’t just “mom” to him -- she was his bookkeeper and a shoulder to lean on. She was infinitely proud beyond proud of the man he was.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Samantha (Dixon) Halpin of Wards Creek, NB; his stepson, Hayden Dixon (Hailey) of Sussex Corner, NB; his mother, Pamela Dugay (Frank Logan) of Bloomfield, NB; his siblings: Katelyn Bradshaw (Kyle) of Collina, NB; and Stephen Halpin (Chelsea) of Saint John, NB; his father-in-law, Don Dixon; his sister-in-law, Kayla Montminy (Nick) of Ottawa, ON; his uncles: Mike Dugay (Mary), Eddie Dugay (Dawn), Billy Dugay (Kelly), Peter Halpin, and Robert Hodgson (Gabbie); his aunts: Kathie Remington (Lew), Jacqueline Halpin, and Angie Haggarty; his nieces, Skyla and Addison; and his many beloved cousins. Mike is also survived by some other very special people who were in his life: Lisa Baskin (Mark), his stepfather for over 20 years, Phillip Murphy, with whom Mike shared his love for long haul trucking, and Haley and Jacob Carr.

Besides his father, Mike is predeceased by his grandparents: Evelyn and Bill Dugay, Gordon Halpin, and Joan and Joe Haggarty; his cousin, Gregory Halpin; and his uncle, Robbie Halpin.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where a visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 23 from 2-4; 6-8pm. There will be a service honouring Mike’s life on Thursday, July 24 at 3pm from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church (114 Church Ave. Sussex, NB). A celebration of Mike’s life will follow at a later date.

To honour his deep love for animals, donations in Mike’s memory may be made to the SPCA or a charity of the donor's choice. Personal condolences and donations may be made through Wallacefuneralhome.com
