Obituary of Winnie Teakles
It is with deep sadness that the family of Kathleen Winnifred “Winnie” Teakles announce her passing, which occurred at the Sussex Health Centre on July 19, 2025 after a difficult final chapter, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Cedar Camp, NB on July 1, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Kathleen (Ward) Betteridge.
Winnie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
Winnie lived a life full of care, strength, and quiet resilience. In her early years, she was a devoted babysitter to many children in the community, offering warmth, safety, and a nurturing spirit to all who came through her door. She had a special way of making everyone feel like family.
She was also famous for her homemade rolls - soft, golden, and always made with love. Her
rolls were a staple at family gatherings, and no meal felt complete without them. Everyone asked for them, and she was always happy to oblige.
Winnie cherished her time at the camp — it was her happy place. If she wasn't home, you could count on her being on the path, walking back to the camp. She found comfort in the outdoors and loved the peacefulness it offered.
Winnie was a loving wife to her late husband, Currie and the proud mother of five beautiful children: (the late) Roger Teakles, Wendy (Dan) McGinnis of Ratter Comer, Cheryl Mason (Trent) of Sussex, Lorraine (Robbie) Armstrong of Springfield and Randy (Tina) Teakles of Sussex; Her siblings: Eileen Baxter (Harvey) of Baxter‘s Comer, Johnny Betteridge (Dorothy) of Cedar Camp, Alice Folkins (Lorne) of Sussex and Jean Brown of Pennfield; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her family was everything to her, and she poured her heart into every generation.
She was the treasured grandmother of Brodie (Kim), Randi (Josh), Josh, Michaelea, Jessie, Dalton, Lucas (Katelyn), Zack, Molly (Brad), Kyle, Nick and Brianna (Dane).
Winnie's legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Shaelyne, Barrett, Brooklyn, Landon, Greyson, and Annabelle — each of whom brought her joy and pride.
She was a proud and active member of UCW at Southfield United Church, where she gave her time, talents, and heart to her community and faith family. Her contributions left a lasting mark and will not be forgotten.
Though her passing was not peaceful, her life was full of love, purpose and strength. She faced her challenges with courage and grace. She will be deeply missed and remembered for her warm heart, her comforting presence, her famous rolls, and the way she made everyone feel like they belonged.
Along with her parents, Winnie was predeceased by her loving husband, Currie Teakles and her son, Roger Teakles.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home. 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) from where visitation will take place on Thursday, July 24 from 5pm- 8pm. A celebration of Winnie's life will take place on Friday, July 25 at 11 am from Wallace Community Chapel.
