Obituary of Norman Seth Shay

It is with deep sadness that the family of Norman Seth Shay announces his passing on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Sussex health Centre. Born in Sussex, NB on March 24, 1950, Norm was a son of the late Elmer and Myrtle (Proctor) Shay.

Norm had many loves in his life. First and foremost, he loved his family, and time spent with family was precious to him. He was tender-hearted and yet had a keen sense of humor that kept those around him smiling. Norm was always up for a good game of cards, and to him, a good game of cards meant that he came out the winner. Norm also had a love for the great outdoors. When he wasn’t working the farm, he could be found working in the woods, hunting, fishing, or camping at Martin Head or Bear Lake. Norm loved food, especially when it included a good feed of lobster. And finally, Norm will be remembered as a hard worker. Working the farm was not only an industry for him, but a true love of working the land, just he and his tractor. And he did so with all of his heart and soul.

Last but not least, we wish to thank Green Meadows in Belleisle while Norman was a resident there. Your loving care and kindness will never be forgotten.

Norm is survived by his children: Steven, David, and his stepson, Billy Parlee (Yvette) of Penobsquis, NB; his siblings: Alfred Shay (Gloria) of Mt. Pisgah, NB, Glenna Fanjoy (Richard) of Hatfield Point, NB, and Hilda Krumrei of Cumberland Bay, NB. Norm is also survived by his several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Norm is predeceased by his loving partner, Helen; his stepmother, Phyllis Cunningham; his brother, Merlin Shay; his sister, Eleanor Levoie (late Robert); his nephew, Trevor Shay; and his niece, Kelly Hatfield.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, August 20 at 11:00am at Gosline Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Norm may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the IWK, or a local charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through wallacefuneralhome.com
