Sue Grant

Obituary of Sue Grant

It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that the family of Susan Lynn (Lockett) Grant announce her passing the morning of August 21, 2025, at the age of 75. After enduring a decline in her health, with incredible strength and grace, Sue is now at peace and joins her son, Sean, who passed just two short months ago, to be the guardians of their loved ones they left behind.

Sue was born in Rivers, MB on May 30, 1950 on the army base where her father was stationed. Sue was an “army brat”, as they say, and moved with her family to wherever her father was stationed as an Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. From Shilo, MB to London, ON and then to the Maritimes in Saint John, Oromocto, Fredericton, Nashwaksis, NB and then to Calgary, AB, where she graduated from Viscount Bennett High School in 1968. Her family then moved back to Shilo, MB, where she then graduated from Assiniboine College in bookkeeping. It was in Shilo where she met Military Policeman, David Grant. They married in Shilo in 1971, moved to Regina, and then settled in Estevan, SK where their 2 children were born. They were married for seven years but then divorced in 1980.

In 1983, with the death of her beloved Father, Sue moved with the children back to the Maritimes to be closer to her family and live with her mother in Sussex Corner, NB. Sue eventually settled in a job at Dairytown Products Ltd and that is where she would stay for 32 years. As the Office Manager, Sue was respected as a fair, supportive and empathetic boss, and loved as a friend, by her coworkers.

Since retirement in 2015, Sue overcome three cancers and did so with strength, determination and the support of her family, all the while staying positive and never taking anything for granted.

She was passionate about reading and the beach, was creative and enjoyed keeping busy crafting, gardening or bringing old furniture back to life. With a gentleness about her, that beautiful smile, kindness and caring, friendships came easy and lasted a lifetime. She was very strong, independent and had a wonderful sense of humor. In her trying times, she would say “always keep your sense of humor, it will help get you through”. To her, family was everything. She was the unwavering caregiver for her mother for many years and, as a sister, she loved her siblings deeply, was loyal, caring and gave great advice. Always planning the family trips to PEI, where the beach and making memories were her favorite. The care she gave her family was so genuine, that they loved her in return, so deeply, it was immeasurable.

Sue was predeceased by:Paternal Grandparents: Richard John Lockett and Marjorie Harriett (Bamford) Lockett; Maternal Grandparents: Earl Rexford Manning and Helen Bernice (Walker) Manning; Parents: Hattie Evelyn (Manning) Lockett and Albert Edward Lockett; Son: Sean Michael Richard Grant. Sean was her youngest and the loss of her child was truly heartbreaking.

She is survived and will be deeply missed by: Her older sister Nancy (Lockett) Burdon and nieces Jennifer Burdon (Krista), Shelley (Burdon) Daigle (JP, Madilynn); nephew Duane Burdon (Rebecca, Troy, Daniel and Antonia); and her younger brother, John Alan Lockett; sister-in-law, Wendy Lyle (MacLaren) Lockett; and nephews Albert and Terry Lockett.

She leaves behind her daughter, Christina Shannon Rayne (Grant) Murray. Her former son-in-law, Dave Murray and daughter-in-law, Isabelle Leger, both of whom she loved like her own; and her adored grandchildren: Callie Murray and Noah and Kenzie Grant. The kids will miss their doting Nanny with her warm hugs. They were truly the apple of her eye and her time with them made her so very happy.

As her daughter, I know that Sean and I were the loves of her life, and the feeling was entirely mutual. She prioritized our needs with strength and selfless love. Our bond was so strong and there wasn’t a moment in our life where we didn’t feel her complete and unconditional love. She was always there with generosity and patience, hugs, to wipe a tear, to listen, or give sage advice. Mom shaped us profoundly. She made me the mother I am today. She was an amazing person and I have been, and always will be, eternally grateful that she was my Mom.

I carry your heart in my heart.
