We met Roy when we began spending summers at Cassidy Lake. Very soon, he and I discovered that we were both interested in ideas of spirituality, in one’s personal credo, and in concepts of the power of the mind in constructing reality. Long discussions ensued at the lake, followed by Facetime calls during the winter to get caught up on the latest books one had read on the subject.
Roy was a deeply spiritual man, who continually sought answers, a journey of discovery that usually raised many more questions.
He was a competitive card player, whether he was playing with us or with his children and grandchildren – no quarter was given! My fondest memories are of his provoking an outburst from other players with a winning hand, which in turn evoked from him a bout of laughter so deep that he could barely speak as tears rolled from his eyes. And we shared a sweet tooth, especially when he brought along one of Marion’s ice cream creations!
Rarely did an evening of cards go by that Roy did not proudly recount the sporting accomplishments of Jacob, the latest on Alex’s career or Sam’s next educational step, Sue’s and Mike’s promotions at work, Cynthia’s work accomplishments or Andrew’s latest award.
But it was for his Marion, his ”Belle” that he reserved his greatest focus. She was the centre of his life and he gave her all the support and help and love that a man could offer.
Roy was a loyal and caring friend on whom one could rely for anything. We will miss him terribly.
Jeff and I extend our deepest, most sincere condolences to dear Marion; to Sue, Mike, and Jacob; to Cynthia, Andrew, Alex and Sam in their bereavement.

Roy was a great friend to us here at Cassidy Lake. Over the years, we would spend two or three summer nights a week playing a spirited game of cards and enjoying our favourite treats. Occasionally, Roy would even go home as a winner, with a big smile on his face. He got more joy out of beating us, perhaps more than actually playing the games! He was like a brother to us.
We will miss those times, but not nearly as much as we will miss our friend Roy. Godspeed buddy!

Roy had such an impact on my childhood growing up at Cassidy Lake and into adulthood. From endless water fun, summer games, hrs spent teaching me how to throw a baseball, to later yrs when Roy shared his love for painting, decorating, tips for stacking wood, keeping a fire burning efficiently and checking in on me during my winter adventures to the Lake we all love so dearly. My deepest condolences to Marion, Cyn & Andrew, Sue & Mike, Jacob, Samantha, Alex and all family and friends whose life he touched. My Lake life continues to change, but Roy's presence will be forever.

Cassidy Lake holds so many lasting memories for me, and Roy is threaded through so many of them. Spending my childhood summers with my “summer sister” Sue meant countless lazy days with the Drydens. Roy made the best suppers on the barbecue, taught us card games that kept us entertained for hours, paid us to collect clams from his beach, and drove us to the country store to spend our loot. Those summers with Roy and the Dryden family are memories I will always treasure. Hugs to you all.
Love, G
