Obituary of Betty Myers

On October 3, 2025, Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Myers (Mitton) passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on February 15, 1948, in Penobsquis, NB, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Mildred (Burns) Mitton.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was predeceased by her 11 older siblings: Cecil, Earle, Verda Fanjoy, Murray, Eileen Cole, Jackie Armstrong, Douglas, Walter, Vernon (infant), Bob and Margaret Bruce.

The baby of the family, “Betty-Ann” became an aunt at the age of four.  She went to school in Penobsquis, until it was time to commute to Sussex Composite High School, from which she graduated in 1966. She had met Raleigh in grade 11 and they got married on December 10, 1966.

In 1978, Betty and Raleigh bought their house, in Mount Hebron, where they lived for 47 years. She had great friends, and especially neighbours and was able to be a stay-at-home mom.  When the nest was nearly empty, she started working in the retail industry, retiring from Lawton’s Drugs in 2012.

Her favourite place was the property on Grand Lake, known to all as “The Lake”, which she and Raleigh enjoyed every summer, for over 50 years.

Betty is survived by and sadly missed by her husband Raleigh, daughters: Shelley (Moe)Vail of Berwick, Stacy (Barry) Adair of Crawford Lake and Shannon of Belleville, ON, as well as her son, David (Justine) of Head of Millstream.

She will be terribly missed by her Grandchildren: Lauren (Ben), Amy and Ashley Vail, Colton and Paige Adair and Jaxon Myers along with dozens of nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex (506-433-1176), from where visitation will be held on Friday, October 10th, 2025, from 4:00–7:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held from Penobsquis Baptist Church on Saturday, October 11th, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
