Obituary of Betty Mae McKnight

Gentle was the passing of our beloved one, Betty Mae McKnight (nee McQuinn), at her home on October 16, 2025. May her joy of being in the presence of her Lord Jesus overshadow our sadness until we see her again.

Betty was born in Knightville, NB, on January 14, 1932, to Allen and Mary (Chambers) McQuinn.  She was the middle child of five daughters:

Faye McQquinn, Fyrn Gard, Lois Hall, and Kaye Finniss.

In 1938 they moved to Anagance Ridge, where she went to school for Grades 1 – 7, and then moved to Sussex, NB, where she graduated from Sussex High School in 1949.  She took Commercial and graduated in 1950.

Betty then moved to Moncton with her family and got a job at the Moncton Airport Office, Department of Transport.

She met Gerald (Bud) McKnight, Apohaqui, in 1950, and got married on June 26, 1954.  They enjoyed almost 65 years together, before Bud passed away on June 17, 2019, at the age of 87 years old.

She is survived by her children:  Debby Finnigan, Auckland, New Zealand; Kathy McKnight, Apohaqui; and Terry McKnight, Sussex; and Gary McKnight, Toronto, who unexpectedly passed away in September 2023.

She also has five grandchildren:  Justin (Missy) McKnight, Midland; Joshua (Randi) McKnight, Parleeville;  Lukas (Sara) McKnight, Amherst, NS;  Destiny (Roland) Graves, Coles Island; and John (Reegan) Finnigan, Auckland, New Zealand;  And, 9 great-grandchildren:  Samantha and Autumn McKnight;  Arielle, Loryn, Jack, and John McKnight;  Johnathan and Lila Graves;  and Jack Finnigan; plus 19 nieces and nephews; as well as brothers-in-law Gordon (Winnie) McKnight, Sussex; and Bill McKnight, Hampton; and sister-in-law Almeda McKnight, Millstream.

Betty was a loving mom and granny.  She loved spending time with her family.  She had a very strong faith in Jesus, and loved the old hymns, and reading her Bible.  She also loved cooking, quilting, sewing, knitting, playing card games, and doing jigsaw puzzles.  She also took lots of photos, and was sure to write down the date!  She had a good sense of humour and loved to share jokes!

A celebration of Betty's life will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 4:00 pm at the Apohaqui Community Hall, Jones Memorial Park Road, Apohaqui. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow.

The family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the Sussex Extramural Nurses and Dow Quality Health Care, with a special thank you to Wanda McArthur, Susan Young, Darlene McLean and Kassandra Warnock.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). Donations in memory of Betty may be made to the Canadian Bible Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
