Obituary of Sonny Morrow

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Garfield John “Sonny” Morrow, who passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, at the Kiwanis Nursing Home, at the age of 90.

Born on December 29, 1934, in Sussex, New Brunswick, Sonny was the son of the late Garfield and Mary (Forsythe) Morrow, and the beloved husband of the late Laura (Corbett) Morrow. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

A hardworking man all his life, Sonny farmed for many years as a dairy farmer alongside his beloved Percheron horses where the Irving Mill now stands. In 1974, the family moved to Roachville, where he continued farming with a beef herd and his beloved horses. He took great pride in working with and showing his horses throughout the Maritimes and Ontario.  One of his proudest moments was exhibiting his prize Stallion Ostralien's La Don at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto in 1983.

Sonny had a deep love for community and tradition. He enjoyed playing cards and crokinole and proudly ran the weekly card games at the Smith Creek Hall every Friday night. He also drove school bus for many years, forming connections with countless families along the way. Sundays were especially meaningful to him, spent enjoying cards after family dinner with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He took great joy in watching his family participate in 4-H, a passion that brought him much pride.

Sonny will be lovingly remembered by his daughters: Margaret Hayes (Frank) and Susan Ferris (Robert) all of Roachville; his grandchildren: Becky Perry (Dwayne), Sarah Hayes, and Emily Van DeBrand (Ryan), and by his cherished great-grandchildren, Dylan, Paige, and Jack. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Laura, and his sisters Dorothy Marie Cogger, Jean Tubb, and Winifred Morrow.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Monday, December 29th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Sonny’s Life will take place at Trinity Anglican Church on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. The interment will take place in Roachville Cemetery in the spring.

Donations to Smiths Creek Community Hall, Kiwanis Nursing Home, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Donations and personal condolences to the family may be made through www.wallacefuneralhome.com
