Obituary of Joyce Thorne

Joyce Mary Adelbert Thorne entered into the presence of the Lord with her family by her side, on December 27, 2025 at the age of 82. Born in Shediac, NB on November 12, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Iva (Fougere) Fenwick.

Joyce lived most of her life in Sussex, where her roots ran deep and her love for family shaped generations. From a young age, she took on the role of caregiver, lovingly caring for her younger siblings, a devotion that carried on throughout her life as she selflessly served her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To them — and to nearly everyone who had the joy of knowing her — she was simply Grama.

In June 2025, Joyce moved to Saint John, where she was surrounded by care, comfort, and love until her passing.

She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her unmistakable sense of style, and her famously obsessive thriftiness, which she wore almost as proudly as her kindness. Her faith in God guided her life and gave her strength, and her love of ice cream brought smiles to both young and old. Above all, she leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet generosity that will live on in the hearts of her family and community.

Joyce will be deeply missed by her children: Tania Graham (Robin) of Riverbank South, NB; Gina Reid (Joseph) of Saint John, NB; her grandchildren: Layka Shay (Mark), Jerika Shay (Nick), Mataya Duncan (Corey), Isaiah Graham (Paige), Julian Reid, and Elias Reid (Lauren); her great-grandchildren: Alexis, Kaiden, Addison, Sally, Aliza, Jackson, Iva, James, Timothy, Landen, Carter, Meriah, Sofia, and Ariel; and her brother, Calvin Fenwick (Janet) of Sussex, NB; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her son, Charles Thorne; her brothers: Eric and Robert Fenwick; and her sisters: Deborah Finley, Alegra Sharpe, and Dorena Mason.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). Visitation will be held from Calvary Church (384 St George St, Lower Cove, NB) on Thursday, January 1, 2026 from12:30 – 2pm. A Celebration of Joyce’s life will be immediately following.
