Leigh began his career in poultry farming working for Gerald Trites. In 1979, he built his own barn founding Nalem Poultry. His leadership and commitment to the industry led him to serve on the Board of Directors of New Brunswick Chicken Marketing Board.
In 1985, Leigh purchased a home in Bonshaw Prince Edward Island, where he built three chicken barns - the first poultry barns to operate in PEI. He later served on the PEI Poultry Marketing Board and travelled to Ottawa to represent the provinces in which he operated. Leigh retired from poultry farming in 2005, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Atlantic Canadian Agriculture.
Never one to slow down, Leigh returned to work and continued his career at Clarence Farm Services-Sussex, where he worked until his passing. He took great pride in his work as a chicken farmer, and his dedication to agriculture remained strong throughout his life.
Above all, Leigh's greatest accomplishment was his role as a father. He built his business as a family enterprise, involving his children every step of the way. He loved farming equipment and could always be found fixing or working on something. Leigh also enjoyed going out for breakfast - a habit many fondly remember, along with his very particular nature, which may be have been the reason he preferred dining out.
Leigh will live on in the hearts of his children and family. His quiet strength will be deeply missed by many people whose lives he has touched.
