Obituary of Warren Winslow Shufelt
It is with deep sadness that the family of Warren Winslow Shufelt announces his passing on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Shannex Saint John, Tucker Hall. Born in Quebec City, QC, on February 12, 1946, Warren was the son of the late Winslow and Norma (Hope) Shufelt.
Warren was an avid gardener who found deep joy in tending to the earth, especially when trimming and planting the trees and plants he cherished. The outdoors was his peaceful place—whether building a fire that somehow always glowed a little longer than expected, heading out camping, or being “on the water, not in the water.” He also loved any excuse to be on a John Deer tractor, even when those adventures may have ended with a good‑natured call to CAA.
He was also a gifted card player, especially at cribbage. Anyone who sat across from him knew they were in the presence of someone who played with equal parts skill, patience, and maybe a bit of luck. Winning a game against him wasn’t just rare—it was an event worthy of celebration. And yet, whether he won or lost, he made every match feel like time well spent, filled with laughter, stories, and the unmistakable twinkle in his eye.
Warren loved a good meal shared with family and friends. Whether he was assisting with the prepping or manning the barbecue, you could be certain that “quality control” was looked after with great enthusiasm—usually involving a few taste‑tests, just to be safe.
Above all else, Warren deeply loved his family, his church community, and the friends whose lives he touched with his kindness and steady helping hand. He approached every project with meticulous dedication, ensuring each task was completed with care and perfection, always reminding us of the “Five P’s” - Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.
His humour, his craftsmanship, his faith, and his love of nature will be forever remembered. But most of all, we will miss the way he made every moment—whether over a campfire, a garden bed, or a cribbage board—feel a little brighter, and a little more full of love.
Warren will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Janice (Lawrence) Shufelt; his children: Natalie Shufelt and her husband, Christian Gilbert, James Shufelt and his wife, Linda Shufelt, and Allison Normand and her husband Serge Normand; his grandchildren: Melissa, Jennifer and her husband, Radu, Jacob-Mathieu, Trinity, and Naomi; and his sister, Joyce Skinner (Shufelt). Warren is also survived by his two nephews, Douglas and Stephen.
