Obituary of Reg Kyle
It is with deep sadness that the family of Reginald Arthur Kyle announce his passing on January 19, 2026, at the Sussex Health Centre at the age of 89.
Born on October 25, 1936, in Waterford, NB; he was the son of the late Irvine and Elsie (Betteridge) Kyle and the beloved husband of the late Pearl (Cook) Kyle, who passed away in 2022.
Reg had a legendary sweet tooth and a taste for the unconventional—salsa on ice cream and plum sauce on just about everything, especially beef jerky. He was stubborn, contrary, and loved to torment those around him. If Reg was smiling, it usually meant he was about to do something—or had already done it—to get a rise out of someone. He adored children and babies, and every young visitor was guaranteed a snack or a treat, especially a “chocolate bar.”
A storyteller through and through, Reg always insisted his stories were absolutely true. He worked as a truck driver and loader operator and took pride in a hard day’s work. He loved visits—as long as they lasted no more than 30 minutes and greatly enjoyed time spent in his garage where he loved his wood fires.
He loved feeding squirrels, mowing the neighbours’ lawns, watching westerns at maximum volume and time spent with his cat Gizmo. A drink of rye or shine, in his opinion, never came at a bad time.
Reg will be lovingly remembered by his children: Susan McLean of Roachville, Deborah Morrison (Deane) of Lower Kars, and Lorne Kyle (Audrey) of NFLD; He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Gary Kyle (Tamara), Cindy Kendall (Francis), David McLean (Julie), Tammy Mercer (Charles), Mark McLean (Layka), Robin Morrison (Keith), and Michael Morrison (Mandy). He is also survived by his brother, Gary Kyle (Marilyn) of Saint John; his sister, Barbara Bent of Havelock; and his sister-in-law, Lillian Kyle of Sussex; along with several great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Along with is parents and loving wife, Reg was predeceased by his sister, Ruth McIllwraith and his brother Gerald Kyle.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive. A celebration of Reg’s life will be held at Wallace Community Chapel on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Trinity Cemetery in the spring.
