Obituary of Betty Bettle
Betty Bettle was born in Sussex on March 16, 1955, and passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Betty’s heart was truly larger than life. She lovingly cared for other people’s children who became family, and to have had a hand in helping raise so many children was a remarkable gift and a true testament to her generous spirit. Betty had a huge heart and spent her life looking after everyone — always there when someone needed her. She was strong yet gentle, a true mother hen whose hugs could fix almost anything. Her warmth, compassion, and steady presence brought comfort and reassurance to all who were lucky enough to know her.
Betty loved her morning talks with her beloved sissy Juanita, who recently passed on January 18, 2026 — the day didn’t truly begin until they had chatted. She also enjoyed getting outside for an evening stroll or simply relaxing in the evening, especially when her husband was by her side. She loved her family fiercely, but her grandchildren were her pride and joy. The pure happiness on her face was unmistakable whether she was cheering at hockey, football, or basketball games, or watching dance and gymnastics performances. She was always there — showing up with unwavering love, encouragement, and pride.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband Paul; her children Jeremy Bettle (Tara) and Kara Monahan (Scott); and her cherished grandchildren Thomas (Sadie), Jena, Jacob, Emma, and Zoe, Cleo McLaughlin, mother of Thomas and Jena. She is survived by her sisters Evelyna MacKay (Stewart) and Dionne Yeomans, and her brothers Humphrey Johnston (Janie) and Leverne Johnston (Gail); as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Austin and Mary (Allaby) Johnston, she was predeceased by her brothers Karll, Cyrus, Travis, Anglin, her infant brother Gorman, and by her sisters Winnie Parlee and Juanita Keys.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive. A gathering will be held in the Wallace Community Chapel on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 from 4-7pm.

Betty’s legacy of love, selflessness, and deep care for others will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
