Obituary of Murray Otis

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Murray Leonard Otis announces his peaceful passing on January 24, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born in Southfield on August 10, 1933, Murray was the son of the late Alexander and Emma (Campbell) Otis.

Murray was a very hardworking man throughout his life. He never sat idle, over the years he held jobs working for Saunders Sawmill, Robertson’s Garage as an auto mechanic, Bruce Brown's Trucking and Frazee’s Truck and Cattle, while also dairy farming. . He was a past member of the Norton Fire Department and served on the Board of Directors for the Kirk Hill Cemetery.

Known for his kindness, humor, and quick wit, Murray loved doing for others, he would give the shirt off his back and never ask for a single thing in return.  Murray was a man of many talents. He could make something out of nothing and could fix just about anything.

He truly had a heart of gold and seemed to make friends wherever he would go. He had a passion for the draft horses, a familiar face at many horse shows – and his special parking was a given. He will be remembered for his contagious smile and the little gleam in his eye. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched.

A devoted family man, he will live on in the hearts of his loving wife of 66 years, Marion (Booth) Otis; his sons: John Otis (Kathy and their grandson, Lucas), Gordon Otis, and Thomas Otis (Lisa); his cherished grandson Jackson; his brother Ernest Otis (Sally); his sisters Ethel Gailey and Marie Henderson; his sisters-in-law: Margaret and Ruby; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Murray was predeceased by his brothers: Elvin, Aubrey, Lawrence, Clarence and Ronald Otis; his brothers-in-law: Elmer Gailey and Donnie Henderson; his niece, Wanda Henderson and his nephew, David Otis.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex. A celebration of Murray’s life will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. from Wallace Community Chapel.
