It is with great sadness that the family of Olga Maria Giermindl, announce her passing which occurred on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, with family by her side, peacefully at home in Knightville, NB.
Born in Judenhof, Germany, on June 4, 1934, Olga (91) was the daughter of late Franz and Franziska (Mörtlbauer) Wagner. She immigrated from Germany to Canada in 1976 with her husband Adolf, and 7 children, settling in Sussex, New Brunswick in 1977. With hard work, determination, and a deep respect for their heritage, they began with a small farm, later building a butcher shop and German restaurant. These ventures grew into what is now known as Giermindl's, a cornerstone of the Sussex community for more than 40 years. Their work created not only a successful business, but a lasting family legacy rooted in tradition, quality, and community.
"Oma" was a true matriarch of her family, lovingly referred to as the "queen”. Deeply family-oriented, she led with unconditional love and made everyone around her feel they belonged. She was known for her warmth and kindness, welcoming everyone, whether into the restaurant or her home with open arms.
She had a beautiful way of joining you at your table, turning a simple conversation into an evening of laughter, stories, and connection, sometimes even ending with a schnapps. She had a gift of listening and truly getting to know people, remembering the smallest details, and shared stories of the life she and her husband built in Canada.
Above all, she was immensely proud of her family and the legacy they created together. A legacy rooted in hard work, tradition, and community. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her spirit lives on in the family she cherished and the many lives she touched.
Olga is survived by her children: Olga, Hansi, Eva (Sepp), Maria (Reinhold), Helga (John), Edith (Rosaire), Barb, Inge (David), and Claudia (Alex). She was "Oma" to many, but loved dearly by her 31 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and her sister Helen Sterzl.
Along with her parents, Olga was predeceased by her husband Adolf, her 4 siblings Franz, Ferdinand, Marianne, Franziska, daughter Brigitte, son Adi, grandchildren Christoph, Michael and Stefan.
