Obituary of Ron Jones

Ronald William Jones of Sussex, NB passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on May 25, 2026 at the age of 91.

Ron was the beloved husband and best friend of Audrey (Crothers); devoted Father to Cindy Worrell who predeceased him in 2016 and Cathy Fenske and her husband Buzz of Dartmouth, NS.   Father-in-Law to Geoff Worrell of Wareham, MA and loving Grandfather of Lindsay (C White), Geoff Worrell (Hannah) and Ashley (John Kilcoyne) and Great Grandfather to Camryn, Ashton, Dylan, Hunter, Bodie, Avery and JJ.  Also Great Grandfather to Raimi, daughter of Step Grandson, Kris Fenske (Talia).  Kris predeceased him in 2019.

Ron will be so dearly missed by his half sister, Joan Keith and her husband Richard of Petitcodiac and their family; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alan Graham and Connie; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with his parents Charles Rufus and Miriam Levina (Thorne) Jones and his daughter Cindy; he is predeceased by his stepfather, Edward Prosser.

Ron was born in Salisbury, NB on July 8, 1934.  Ron embraced life and lived it to the fullest!  He was known as “Little Ronnie Jones” from Salisbury, NB.

Growing up Ron enjoyed sports and excelled at Hockey and Basketball through his school years.  His nickname in Basketball was “Spike”.  He was first introduced to Audrey through playing Basketball and he had an eye for her then!

He enjoyed a wonderful career and worked hard his whole life.  He ran Cement Cartage for 7 years, with great success.  He had a wonderful working relationship with his drivers in these years.  He also worked with Canada Cement for 33 years where he started at an Order Desk and retired as the Marketing Manager for the Atlantic Region.  He also enjoyed time working with North Star Cement in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and thoroughly enjoyed the time there experiencing life in Newfoundland.

He fully retired in 1991 and settled into a fulfilling life in Sussex to be close to Audrey’s Mother, Glady Crothers.

Ron was a past member of the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax, a past member of the Beaver Curling Club in Moncton, a member of the Zion Lodge #21F&AM as well as a Shriner since 1962, having been a member in three different provinces.  He also enjoyed sports of all kinds whether he was playing or watching, and maybe a little coaching on the sidelines too!  He and Audrey enjoyed golfing  and curling together as well.  Ron was active and enjoyed belonging to Silveradoes.

He never met a card game he didn’t enjoy. An avid card player throughout his life, he loved any game that brought people together, but especially bridge. He was a dedicated member of several bridge clubs over the years and, in later years, found great enjoyment continuing his passion through online games and connections.

Ron enjoyed being involved in the community and helping others. He was Town Counsellor for a term in Sussex, actively involved with the Liberal Party for years and he also served on the Hospital Board.

Ron had a great zest for life - his family always came first.  He was blessed to enjoy wonderful friends and was always up for an adventure and especially being out in nature - hunting, fishing, spending time at the camp, just driving the backroads and cherishing the many memories of his time there through the years.  He enjoyed his garden for many years and always loved to share the fruits of his labour with family and friends.  There even used to be friendly contests with neighbours for the biggest vegetables.

Ron dearly loved his family and especially the special visits with Cindy & Geoff and family through the years.  He adored his Grandchildren and then the Great Grandchildren.  Many trips to Florida were so much fun with Cindy & Geoff and Family.  When it was not so easy to travel anymore FaceTime became the next best thing to a visit and he would always light up whenever they visited this way.  Visits to Winnipeg and then to Dartmouth were fun with Cathy and Buzz and many friends from when they lived in Nova Scotia and had the opportunity to reconnect,

Ron had a strong faith and even thought of going into the Ministry and actually did so for one summer where he worked in Hillsdale and only had a bicycle to get around!  His faith carried him through his life for the good times and the challenging times.  Their Minister visited him while he was sick at home and he prayed with the family and he shared God is with us in all the seasons of our life and he ended the prayer with God is Good!  Ron shared right after that and said, “For All of Us.”

Ron had a special gift with people.  Somehow he always found a common thread to connect with them even if you would think it couldn’t be - he found that thread.  He loved to make people laugh and always had a joke or two to share or a funny story.  He also enjoyed speaking and sharing his faith wherever he could.

Ron’s life was complete with Audrey by his side.  They enjoyed life together and would of been celebrating their 70th Anniversary together in September.  He adored Audrey from the moment he saw her on the Basketball Court and years later fate brought them together on a date.  They journeyed life together hand in hand and side by side.  Together they loved and raised their family and were blessed to share this journey with amazing friends, so many of whom have been in their lives for years. Many friendships to this day were  even back since school days!  This is a testament to the friends they both nurtured through the years.  Ron’s life with Audrey was so rich with their family and friends.

So thankful and blessed for all the love and support from his loving family and such a special circle of friends who were there for and with him.  Heartfelt thanks to Connie who we called “Florence” who came  to help the family care for Ron.

A most gracious and special thanks to The Extra Mural Team and the EMT’s who cared for Ron.
