Obituary of Bub Fournier
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alfred Joseph Fournier Jr., known by most as “Bub,” who passed away peacefully at home with his family at the age of 78 on June 16, 2026.
Born on October 8, 1947, Bub was the son of the late Alfred J. Fournier Sr. and Isabelle (Bell) Fournier (Kelly). He was also predeceased by his brothers, Mike Fournier and Jim (Butch) Fournier (Eileen), and his sister, Inie Malone (Jim).
Bub spent his working life as a welder and pipefitter in New Brunswick and Ontario, and later in the mining industry, beginning in 1980 with the Potash Company of America in Sussex. Over the years, the company evolved into Potash Saskatchewan and later Nutrien, where Bub continued to dedicate himself to his work. He was a proud member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, and he greatly valued the friendships, hard work, and daily conversations shared with “the boys” at the mines.
Outside of work, Bub was happiest in the woods, at his camp, or outside on a machine. He could build anything—if you could explain it, he could build it. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he loved nature, hunting, and hard manual labour. He would spend hours telling stories that left everyone laughing, sometimes more than once. He had a gift for storytelling and a way of making a story sound just a little different each time.
Bub leaves behind his life partner of 47 years, Veronica Smith, and his children: Robert Fournier of Penetanguishene, ON; Geb McLaughlin of Sussex, NB; Mark Alfred Joseph Fournier (Michelle) of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; and Crystal Gray (Patrick) of Sussex, NB.
He was a proud grandfather to Andrea Drury, Michael McLaughlin, Rikki McLaughlin (Thomas), Nicole Fournier (Jesse), Michaela Waite (Caleb), Joshua Fournier, Marcus Gray, Luke McLaughlin (Brycelyn), and Parker McLaughlin, as well as a great-grandfather to Ava, Emmie, Hunter, Tristan, Harley, Jett and Patrick.
Bub is also survived by his sisters, Margaret Hoefnagels (Joe) and Theresa Fulton (Gary); his brother, John Fournier (Debbie); as well as several nieces and nephews and many friends with whom he cherished the chats, visits, and calls.
Bub’s stories, laughter, and steady presence will remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Rest easy, Bub. Your journey through the woods, the mines, and life itself has left a lasting mark on all of us.
Arrangements are interested to the care of Wallace Funeral Home 34 Sunnyside drive Sussex from where visitation will be held on Friday June 19th 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A private service and burial will take place with the family.
