Obituary of Nancy Lee Murray

Nancy Lee Murray (Mercer) of Penobsquis passed away peacefully at the Moncton City Hospital on Friday, June 19, at the age of 82.

She is survived by her children, Peter Murray (Dawn Constantine) of Penobsquis, Heather Hunt (Barry) of Moncton, and Lesley Stewart (Bradley) of Miramichi. Nancy also leaves behind her sisters, Susan Anderson of Sussex, Cathy Alexander of Sussex, and Jane Mercer of Sussex Corner; her sisters-in-law, Donna Stultz of Riverview and Patsy Murray of Moncton; and her brother-in-law, Ed Murray (Donna) of Penobsquis.

Her five grandchildren, Kennedy Hunt (Dylan Cormier), Keegan Hunt (Chelsey LeBlanc), Jack Stewart, Cohen Stewart, and Case Stewart will fondly remember her “ricky-ticky” song, the old crow game, her homemade pancakes, coin-filled birthday cakes, and warm Nanny hugs.

Nancy was predeceased by her fun-loving husband, John Murray; her parents, Ken and Grace Mercer (Monahan); her sister, Mary Ann Sproul; her brother, Roger Mercer; and her infant brother, John Mercer. She was also predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Bob Anderson, Stan Sproul, Bob Alexander, Tom Stultz, and Gary Murray.

Nancy loved time at the beach making memories with family and friends, telling a good long story, “Tickling the Ivories” and reading with her grandchildren. Nancy had a lifelong love of music. Whether she was singing her favorite hymn, or playing the piano or accordion, music brought her joy and was a gift she generously shared.

The family would like to thank the kind and supportive staff of the Moncton City Hospital Palliative Care Unit, as well as her friends at Havenwood.

Those who knew Nancy will take comfort in imagining her now at peace, singing again, reunited with Johnny.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where a visitation will be held on Friday, July 10 from 12-2pm, followed by a celebration of Nancy’s life from the Wallace Community Chapel at 2:00pm.
