Russell Cunningham Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Russell Edwin Cunningham announces his passing at the Sussex Health Centre on August 3, 2026, at the age of 72. Born in Sussex, New Brunswick, on June 17, 1954, he was the son of the late John and Doris (Parlee) Cunningham.
Russell was a man who found joy in life's simple pleasures. A devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan to the very end, he rarely missed the chance to cheer on his beloved Leafs from the comfort of home. He enjoyed spending time playing Crosswinds Bingo, and after many years working as a carpenter, he became known as a true jack-of-all-trades whose hard work and willingness to help others never went unnoticed.
Family was at the center of Russell's life. He loved nothing more than gathering around the table with those he loved, sharing a good meal, telling stories, and making everyone laugh with his wonderful sense of humor. He had a fascination with New Brunswick's covered bridges and proudly collected photographs of every one. Whether it was enjoying an ice cream on drives with Barb or heading out for supper at Mama George's or JJ's, Russell appreciated the little moments that made life special. Though he could be stubborn at times, it was matched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family.
Russell will live on in the hearts of his loving wife, Barbara; his children, Tina Black (Robert) of Sussex, Kim McIntyre of Sussex, Anthony Cunningham (Shawnda) of Anagance, and Jackie Holder of Sussex; his brother, David Cunningham (Penny) of Riverview; his cherished grandchildren: Daniel (Mel), Jeremy, Evan, Samantha (Jesse), Kat (Osh), James, Christopher, Xavier, Gracelynn, and his special granddaughter, Ally; his ten great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Connie (Wayne) Perry, and Geraldine (Arnie) Boyd; his aunt, Betty Green; his uncle, Allen Parlee; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Along with his parents, Russell was predeceased by his infant son, Scott, and his parents-in-law, Gerald and Betty McKnight.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, where visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Donations in Russell's memory may be made to the Living Memorial. Personal condolences and donations may also be made through wallacefuneralhome.ca.
