Obituary of Jason McCleary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jason Dean McCleary announces his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on August 11, 2026, at the age of 49.

Born in Moncton on May 2, 1977, Jason was the son of the late Richard and Lois (Howe) Davis.

Jason will live on in the memories of his children, who meant more to him than anything: Rhayelyn “Cakes,” Landin “Bud Bear,” Jorja “Porkchop,” Jewel “JB Hog,” and Cooper “Dad’s Boy”; the mother of his children, Amy Aiton; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

Jason was a smart-ass through and through, with a quick wit and a sense of humour that was unmistakably his. He loved to laugh, joke around, and give those around him a hard time—usually with a grin that let you know he was enjoying every second of it.

Long before anything else competed for his attention, there was his first love: his candy-apple-red 1979 Ford F-150. It held a special place in Jason’s heart and remained one of those memories and stories that became part of who he was.

In his younger years, Jason could often be found outdoors hunting or fishing. He appreciated the freedom of being outside and the simple enjoyment of time spent in the woods or near the water.

Jason spent the majority of his working life behind the wheel of a truck. The open road became familiar territory, and truck driving was more than simply a job—it was a significant part of his life and the story he leaves behind.

Above all else, Jason enjoyed spending time with his children. Whether the moments were big or small, being with them was where he wanted to be. The nicknames he had for each of them—Cakes, Bud Bear, Porkchop, JB Hog, and Dad’s Boy—speak to the individual relationships, laughter, and memories they shared with their dad.

Jason’s life was filled with humour, stories, miles travelled, time outdoors, and a whole lot of laughter. Those who knew him will remember the smart-ass remarks, the jokes, and the personality that was entirely his own. Most of all, his children will carry forward the memories of the man they simply knew as Dad.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive Sussex, NB (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-7pm. A Celebration of Jason’s life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Monday, August 17, 2026 at 11:00am. The interment will take place in Evergreen Memorial Park.
