Obituary of Patty MacDonald
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Patricia Louise “Patty” MacDonald announces her peaceful passing at home, with Kevin by her side, on September 1, 2026, at the age of 56.
Born in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, on February 10, 1970, Patty was the daughter of Linda (Tattrie) MacDonald and the late Brooke MacDonald.
Patty found love and companionship with her partner, Kevin Thompson. Together, they did a pretty great job of taking care of one another—and, of course, their seven beloved cats, who were very much part of the family.
Of all the things Patty treasured in this life, nothing compared to her daughter, Kabi and grandchildren. She made time every single day to call Kabi, usually with a cup of coffee in hand and an endless story to tell. Somewhere along the way, the original point of the story was often forgotten, but that was simply part of the charm of talking with Patty.
If Patty loved you, she loved you deeply. She had a big heart, put others before herself, and possessed a strength that sometimes seemed limitless—perhaps even to a fault. There was nothing Patty couldn’t do.
Throughout her life, Patty worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse in communities across the country. She genuinely loved working with seniors, and her natural ability to care for others extended far beyond her profession. In recent years, that was especially evident in the compassion and care given to her mother, Linda. The two could fight like cats and dogs, but beneath it all was an unbreakable bond. They were, and always will be, each other’s best friends.
Patty knew how to enjoy life. She loved cats, fishing and she was a wonderful bingo player. Then there was shopping—which, for Patty, wasn’t simply a hobby; it was practically a sport. She loved the people in her life fiercely, gave freely of herself and was, quite simply, a good person.
Patty will live on in the hearts of her partner, Kevin Thompson; her mother, Linda MacDonald; her daughter, Kabi Iyioz and her husband Merit; her seven grandchildren: Zeki, Kerem, Alara, Ayla, Aliye, Kayi, and Azra. Patty’s memory will also shine through her siblings: Penny Ricker (Vaughn) of Head of Millstream, Charles Brenton (Valerie) of Sussex, and Marsha Brenton (Mike) of Tidnish Bridge, Nova Scotia; her niece and nephews: Brian McEwen (Ashley), Dylan McEwen (Andrea Mason), and Courtney Delos-Reyes (Jeremy); her great nieces and nephews; longtime friend Novalee Jackson; as well as her seven beloved cats.
Along with her father, Brooke, Patty was predeceased by her grandparents: Bertha and Mel MacDonald and Marion and Lesley Tattrie; her nephew, John McEwen; and her former partner, Chet Thiessen.
Those who loved Patty are willing to carry the pain of losing her so that she can finally be free of hers. She leaves behind a family who will miss her stories, her strength, her big heart, her love and the unmistakable presence she brought into their lives.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). At Patty’s request, all arrangements will be held privately.
