Obituary of Glenn Hicks

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Glenn Frank Hicks announce his passing at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on September 15, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born in Hicks Settlement on November 24, 1947, Glenn was the oldest son of Marjorie (Walker) Hicks and the late Frank Hicks.

Introduced through family, Glenn would meet Ida Hayward and began a life together that would span more than 56 years of marriage after exchanging vows on August 22, 1970.

Throughout his working career, Glenn served as a loan officer with Scotiabank. He was a member of the Florenceville Curling Club and a lifetime member of the Kinsmen Club of Canada, where he was active with the Carleton County chapter.

Glenn was a man who believed that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing right—and preferably to perfection. That determination came with a stubborn streak that stayed with him right to the end, along with a mischievous sense of humour. He loved to tease, and his nieces were often his favourite targets.

The outdoors brought Glenn a great deal of happiness. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending his garden, while the colder winter months often found him working away at a jigsaw puzzle or settling in with a good book.

Glenn also loved to travel. Whether exploring the Maritimes, making his trip across Canada, travelling to England several times, or simply heading out for a weekend drive, he enjoyed seeing where the road might take him. With Glenn, a simple day drive didn't necessarily come with a schedule—you never quite knew where you might end up or how long it would take to get home. For him, the journey was part of the enjoyment.

Those who knew Glenn will remember a hardworking and particular man, a devoted husband, a good-natured tease, and someone who approached life in his own unmistakable way. His stubbornness, humour, stories and familiar ways will be deeply missed by those who loved him.

Glenn will live on in the hearts of his loving wife, Ida (Hayward) Hicks; his mother, Marjorie Hicks of Petitcodiac; his brothers: Wayne Hicks and his wife Barbara of Sussex, and Malcolm Hicks and his wife Cynthia of Havelock; his sister, Sharon Magee and her husband John of Ontario; as well as several nieces and one nephew.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, from where visitation will be held on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The interment will take place in Green Hill Cemetery in Havelock.

For those who wish, donations in memory of Glenn may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice. Personal condolences and donations may be made through wallacefuneralhome.com
