Obituary of Edward McFarlane
It is with broken hearts that the family announces the passing of Edward Melbourne McFarlane, who passed away peacefully at Bobby’s Hospice on September 23, 2026, at the age of 89. Edward was born in Millbrook, NB on June 24, 1937, the son of the late Robert and Mary (Hunter) McFarlane.
Edward met Ruby at the station yard in Sussex. Her brother helped bring them together and they have been happily married for 66 years.
Family was always first for Edward. He worked very hard to take care of Ruby and their children. He built their first house himself and continued to be a self-employed man doing many jobs throughout the years. He was a humble man, but a brave man, always thinking of his family and how he could make things easier for them. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to their visits and the family get-togethers. He was proud of the people they had become and took pride in their success.
Edward enjoyed being outdoors whether he was hunting, fishing or gardening. He took great pride in his gardens and was well known for sharing his vegetables with his family once they were ready.
Edward enjoyed listening to country music and teasing Ruby. He had a wonderful sense of humor and she knew about that humor more than anyone. He loved Ruby and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will remain always in the hearts of those who knew him.
Edward will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ruby (Thorne) McFarlane: daughters: Kimberly Graham (Tony), Charlene Richardson (Adam), Melody Hatfield (Chris); sons: Stephen McFarlane (Cindy), Michael McFarlane, and Dereck McFarlane (Erica); grandchildren: Melanie, Rodney, Cody, Jody, Adam, Katie, Josh, Kirsten, Craig, Brett, Kendra, Delaney, Kyle, Cyan, Nathan, Ava, Nya, Tanner and Lukas; 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister Anne Thorne; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Edward was predeceased by his brothers: Donald, Raymond, Nelson, Lloyd and Gordon; and his sisters: Phyllis, Edris and Linda.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506-433-1176). The funeral service will take place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Abundant Life Church (489 Main Street, Sussex, NB) at 2:00pm.
