Obituary of Auriel Dougan
Auriel was born in New Brunswick and raised on the Saint John River at Hampstead, until the age of 12 when he moved to Upham. He was the son of the late Walter and Ethel (Gilchrist) Dougan.
Auriel loved the outdoors; he was an able woodsman and loved to hunt and fish with family and friends. Auriel was down-to-earth, realistic and practical. He could turn his hand to many things; from restoring a wooden sailboat to building a cottage, restoring his antique Cadillac to building a heating system.
Auriel was at his best when he had a problem to solve. He and Anne owned and operated W.A. Dougan Electrical and Refrigeration Ltd. for many years. He was a member of Hampton (Wood Lake) Fishing Club and the United Church of Canada. He was affectionately known as an ordinary man in a unique way. He was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Auriel is survived by his wife Anne (Gillmor) and his children: Shaun Chown (Douglas) of Kierstead Mountain, Sheena Dougan of Millbrook and Gillmor (Shelley) of Sussex Corner; his grandchildren: Gillian and Colban Chown and John, Christopher, Allyson and Jennie Dougan.
