Obituary of Edna Walker
Mrs. Edna Marie Walker was born on April 27th, 1928, in Lagaceville, NB. She was the third daughter of Charlotte (Savoie) and Philip Arsenault. They lived in St. Wilfred, NB and moved to Lac Amqui, Quebec, in 1937. They then came back to the Maritimes to Sussex, NB in 1942.
In her younger years, Edna worked as a clerk in a shoe store in Sussex known as 'Singers'. Later she was employed as a presser for Paul Tingley Dry Cleaners in Sussex. She also was employed by Harold Bell as a housekeeper before she married. She then became a fulltime housewife and a busy mother. Edna married Cecil Warren Walker on May 13th, 1950.
Being content as a stay-at-home mom, Edna did not travel very much. She did, however, keep busy with many hobbies. Edna enjoyed sewing, knitting, shopping and gardening- especially flowers. Her true passion was music. She attempted to learn how to play the guitar and in her later years, the violin and organ. You might say that she taught herself how to play in her own unique way.
Edna also had a few pets over the years; from Fluffy the cat, to Sport and Snoopy the dogs. Bella is a very special small dog that Edna would make a fuss over when she came to visit her new friends at the Kiwanis Nursing Home.
Edna was always a very gentle, kind, sincere, caring and nurturing wife, mother and grandmother with a quiet strength. Edna's life revolved around her family: her God, her husband, her daughters and her grandchildren; of which she was so proud, so devoted and so helpful.
Edna will live on in the hearts by two daughters: Barbara Ann of Saint John, Shirley of Sussex; her sister, Lottie Thorne of Sussex, her brother Joseph Arsenault of Legaceville; her brothers-in-law: Willis and James Walker of Sussex; four grandchildren: Patrick Montague of Fredericton, Tim Montague of Saint John, Paul Montague Jr. of Saint John and Sharlene McKillop of BC; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Edna was predeceased by her husband Cecil who passed away in 2010; two infant sons in 1954 and 1966 and by her sisters; Blanche Hebert and Lina Arsenault; her brother, Raymond and by her brothers-in-law, Ira Thorne and Alex Hebert.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2-4pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Saint Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 10:00 am. The interment will take place at Trinity Cemetery.
