Obituary of James Perry Stackhouse

James Stackhouse was born in Saint John on April 4, 1915 and was the son of the late John and Ruth (Secord) Stackhouse. Jim met Marion when they were working at Eaton's in Moncton during the "Christmas Rush". They were married on October 3, 1949 and went on to raise their family of six. Jim took pride in caring for his family and worked very hard to ensure they had what they needed. Jim was no stranger to hard work. He started at Dexter Construction building the highway on Kierstead Mountain and then at the Bishop Mill in Canaan and Coles Island. Jim then took sheet metal training at Saint John Technical School. Once he had finished his training, he went on to Glendale Mobile Homes in Sussex. He also was a seasonal worker with the Department of Transportation with the Salt Crew. Jim loved working on his farm. He raised pigs and shipped them to Swifts in Moncton. He also had cows on his farm and shipped cream to the Sussex Creamery. He loved all animals and was a kind and gentle man. He was a member of the Gideon Society which was very important to him. He had a strong faith which took him through the most difficult time in his life when he had to sell his cattle to Hub Meat Packers when he could no longer care for them. Jim was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and a work ethic matched by no one. James is survived by his wife Marion (Hanington); four daughters: Diane Stackhouse and Gerard Caissie of Cambridge; June Palmer of Long Creek; Faye McCormack and her husband Duncan of Cambridge; Ida Stackhouse of Fredericton; two sons: John Roy of Dieppe and James Lee and his wife Margaret of Findlay, Ohio; grandchildren: Vanessa Palmer, Isaac B. Palmer, Michael Stackhouse, Scott Stackhouse, Stuart McCormack, Owen McCormack, Melissa Stackhouse, Cody Stackhouse and Danielle Stackhouse; great grandchildren: Matthew, Mallory, Macey and Ava as well as one nephew. Mr. James Perry Stackhouse of Long Creek passed away at his home on December 30, 2012 at the age of 97. He was predeceased by his sister Lillian Fenwick and two brothers: John and Alfred. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) on Friday, January 4, from 6-8pm. A service celebrating James' life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 1:00pm. Memorial donations made to the Agricultural Museum of Sussex, the Princess Louise Park or Scouts Canada would be appreciated by the family. www.wallacefuneralhome.com
