Obituary of John McNay

Mr. John C. McNay of Kiwanis Nursing Home Sussex passed away on October 4, 2011 at the age of 98. John was born on September 15, 1913 at "Egmondville", Tuckersmith Township, ON. He is the son of the late John and Agnes (McBride) McNay. John was known as "Chet" to his family when growing up, but on joining the Air Force during the war years became known as "John". He married Mary Bernice White on December 14, 1945. After retiring from the forces "Father John" taught industrial arts in high school in PEI and NB. As a couple, John and Bernice enjoyed exploring and travelled widely with their family, living in Ontario, Alberta, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick, often coming back to spend their summers at "the cottage" in Bear Lake, ON. John spent many happy winters as a "snowbird" before finally settling in New Brunswick for his later years. John will live on in the hearts of his wife, Bernice McNay; his children; Margaret E. Holland and John of Noonan, Jean Hughes and Gareth of England, John D. McNay and Peggy of St. Stephen, Catherine McNay and the late Michael Wignall of Saanichton, BC, Nancy Lee and David of Sussex, Scott McNay and Line Giguiere of MacKenzie, BC and Heather McNay of Kitchener, On.; his grandchildren: John E. McNay and his fiance Shauna, Cheryl (McNay) Stillwell, Jeffrey Hill, Andrew Hill and his fiancé Jessica, Jonathan Holland and Katryna, Matt and Greg Holland, Joel and his fiance Linda, Justin and Jason Lee, Richard and Martin Hughes and Kayla G. McNay; great grandchildren; Katelynne, Benjamin, Kassie, Brittney, Gabrielle, Kerri, Dylan, Jordynn, Liam, Nathan, Jayden and Carrie; a great great grandson, Lucas; as well as his special friend Pam Adair and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his sisters; Margaret McNay and Annie Stewart, his brother William G. McNay and his granddaughter Kelly Ann Lee. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). At John's request no visitation will be held. A Celebration of John's life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 1:00pm with a tribute offered by Sussex Royal Canadian Legion Branch #20. The family will be hosting a reception in the Wallace Funeral Home Reception Area immediately following the service. The interment will take place at Hampshire Cemetery in Prince Edward Island at a later date. As an expression of sympathy donations made to the Diabetic Association or to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
