Obituary of Annie Adelia Floyd

Annie was born on September 24, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Irvine and Adelia (Leake) Coates and the wife of the late Frank Ashley Floyd who passed away in 2004. Annie grew up on a farm with parents who instilled morals and values in her. Throughout her life, she continued to uphold these beliefs. She believed in her Church, she believed in hard work and she believed in family. She worked hard her whole life. She worked at Barbours, Stedmans and at The Valley Restaurant from 1964 to 1988. She made a lot of friends during those years and valued these friendships. Annie loved to dance. She would go to dances at the Smith Creek Hall or wherever they were being held. She met Frank at a dance and it was the beginning of a wonderful life. Annie and Frank lived in Hamilton, Ontario for awhile and during that time, Larry and Debbie were born. Mark and Susan were born after they returned to Sussex. Annie loved taking care of her family and was quite lenient with her children and even though she would threaten to bring out the wooden spoon, the children and Annie both knew she never really would. She always put their needs first. If she were in the kitchen cooking, she would often have her children there, waiting for whatever was coming out of the oven. If someone offered to help, she would insist on doing it herself. Annie enjoyed the get togethers. She loved having her family around her at her home in the kitchen and she also loved the Coates' family reunions. She was close to her brothers and sisters and could talk on the phone with them forever. She loved having her grandchildren visit and had a special toy box just for them. She made it very clear that whatever came out of the box had to be put back in at the end of the visit. Annie enjoyed doing puzzles and writing in her daily journal. She would take note of what the weather was that day or any news that was happening on that day. She was genuinely interested in what was going on in her community. She was a lifetime member of the United Church as well as a member of the UCW. She was a wonderful baker who contributed to church suppers whenever she could. She would not only cook at these suppers, but she would serve and clean up as well. Annie was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. Annie will be lovingly remembered by her daughters: Debra Ann Ingersoll and her husband Bruce of Saint John, and Susan Lynn Chappel and her husband Daniel of Titusville; her sons: Larry Ashley Floyd and his wife Sharon of Apohaqui and Mark David Floyd and his wife Tina of Passekeag; her grandchildren; Jeff (Marta), Jason (Andrea), Ashley, Patrick, Anthony, Andrew, Shawn, Michael, Brittany, Taylor, Brooke, Stephanie (Mark) and Brandon; great grandchildren; Mason, Cole,Ella, Abigail, Carter, Sophie, Ava and Abby; her brother Irvine Coates (Jesse) of Sussex; her sisters: Adelia Mercer (Maynard) of Plumweseep and Florence McFarlane of Sussex; her special niece Evelyn Douthwright as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Annie Adelia Floyd of Apohaqui, NB passed away at the Sussex Health Center on January 31, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her brothers: Andy and John and her sisters Hazel, Ruth, Jane and Doris. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB (506) 433-1176, where visitation will be held on Saturday, February 2, from 1-3 and 6-8pm.
