Obituary of Earl Leslie Carter

Earl was born on November 17, 1932, the fourth child of eight children to Bliss and Violet Carter. His childhood years were growing up in Elgin where he attended Elgin Regional School. He proclaimed he walked "miles" to school wading through snow to his knees with just gum rubbers on his feet and hand-me-down clothes. He told of the time he stuck his tongue on the steel bridge and it froze. He said "I won't do that again". He played hockey from the time he got his first pair of skates until early adulthood. He would boast that he was a "Superstar" and got paid 25 cents for each goal. Earl was a truck driver for Modern Construction, Snowplow operator for a year when the liberal government was in power in 1962. He married Mona his beloved and dedicated wife, they moved to Sussex where she worked at the Kings County Memorial Hospital. Earl worked at Downey's Mill, Hynes Corner driving a log truck until he got pinned between the truck and work bench causing a fractured pelvis, after he recovered he went to work in the mill as an edger. When the Mill closed he worked for Norrad Express as a truck driver, he went to the Irving Saw Mill as a lumber grader. And eventually returned to Norrad's Redemption Centre, from where he retired in 1996. Earl loved his family; he had his own way of showing it. His pride and joy was when his grandchildren came along. According to Mindy you could find him on the floor with her doing their "sexercisers". Now he has his great grandchildren. He always enjoyed camping at Martin Head on the weekends, playing cards and gardening. Earl loved calling and hunting moose, in or out of season, day or night. After Mona retired in 1998, they purchased a cottage in Elgin where he enjoyed the bonfires, fireworks, and fixing up the place. In the last few years, do to failing health, Earl wasn't able to get to the cottage but he enjoyed sitting on their verandah in Sussex Corner watching the traffic. He will live on in the hearts of Mona, his beloved wife of 50 years; three sons: Jimmy Stewart of Elgin, Leslie Carter and his wife Heather, and Mark Carter all of Sussex Corner; three brothers: Lionel of Elgin, Aubrey and his wife Doreen of Riverview and Gerald and his wife Mary of Elgin; two Sisters: Ina LeBlanc and her husband Rheal and Linda Coleman all of Riverview, 11 grandchildren: Mindy, Justin, Corey, Jacob, Chris, Cynthia, Michael, Devin, Helen, Jasmine and Tina;six great grandchildren: Andrew, Kaden, Tyson, Owen, Hunter and Patience; as well as several nieces and nephews.
