Obituary of Robert Armstrong

Mr. Robert Edward Armstrong was born in Barnesville on January 19, 1933, he was the fifth of six children to Robert and Violet (Jamieson) Armstrong. At six months old, he moved to Smith Creek and went to school there until he was nine, when he began attending school in Sussex while he lived with his grandmother. When he got older he lived in Sussex Corner and Dutch Valley but his life always brought him back to Sussex Corner. Bob worked as a truck driver for road construction and then worked for Irving Equipment as a mechanic and supervisor for most of his life. He was a founding Shareholder in Kings Co. Trucking Company, and owned and drove trucks with Kings Co. and RST. He was very interested in politics and was a member of the PC Party. In earlier years he loved snowmobiling. He also loved his camp in Mechanic Lake and after his retirement he enjoyed traveling and trips on his four wheeler. Bob enjoyed many evenings playing cards with friends or at home with Jackie; especially if he was winning. He also loved making wine. Bob was very active in his local groups:he was a member of Beaconsfield LOL#78 Waterford and Zion #21 FA&M, the Luxor Shriners, the Golden K, Silverados and Seniors Bowling. He was a founding member of Sussex Shrine Club and the Maple Leaf of Luxor. He was an amazing Husband, Father, Grandfather and now Great Grandfather. Mr. Robert Edward Armstrong of Sussex Corner passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on September 15, 2011 at the age of 78. Bob will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife of 57 years, Jackie; his sons Edward and his wife Connie of Wards Creek and Rob of Sussex Corner; three granddaughters, Tracey and her husband Pat Howe,Stacey and her husband Derek Dunfield and Mackenzy Armstrong; his grandson Bradley and his girlfriend Stevie; five great grandchildren; his brother Arnold and his wife Betty of Moncton; his sisters Doreen Jefferies of Sussex and Margeurite Jones of Henderson, Nevada. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, Sussex.Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 1-3 and 6-8pm. There will be an Orange Lodge tribute at 5:30pm followed by a Masonic Lodge tribute at 5:45pm. A Celebration of Bob's life will be held from St. John's United Church on September 19, 2011 at 2:00pm with Rev. Gene Fisher officiating. Donations made to a memorial of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
