Obituary of Joseph Albert Taylor
Joe was born in Knightville on February 6, 1926 to Ernest and Odessa (Coates) Taylor. He came from a small but loving family with two brothers: Harold and Clifford Taylor.
His favorite thing to do when he was young was to visit his grandparents Joseph and Keziah Coates.
Joe grew up and went into the army for awhile and then onto work for many years at Shur Gain Feeds and then as a butter maker at Sussex Cheese and Butter. After leaving there he went to work for Maple Leaf Mills where he became the manager until his retirement.
Joe attended Sussex Corner School where he met a beautiful young woman, Margaret Parlee, who he later married on June 12, 1945 in St. Mark's Anglican Church in Sussex Corner. They resided in Sussex Corner where they raised their eight children, four boys and four girls. Life was interesting and exciting with so many children and so much to do. He worked hard to provide for his large family and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved taking them camping, fishing, drives on every old country road he could find and trying to teach them right from wrong.
Joe made many friends over the years and enjoyed spending time with them, especially Saturday night card games with Jim and Vera Dickson, life long friends of the family.
Joe and Margaret had a summer home for many years and they spent many weekends having barbeques and get togethers with all their friends and family. He loved to play guitar and his favorite song to play was "The Old Rugged Cross" and he played it well. He loved music, fiddling and guitar picking and especially "Wildwood Flower".
Joe and Margaret traveled to various places: the Maritime Provinces, Florida and their favorite place which was Newfoundland. These trips were made even more special because they were with Jim and Vera Dickson. They loved to go for drives and explore different parts of the province. You would hardly ever see Joe without Margaret. They were constant companions who prevailed over the tragic loss of their daughter Eleanor who passed away March 27, 2004.
Joe spent the last years of his life at the Kiwanis Nursing Home where he made many friends. He loved them like family and they loved him right back. We are so grateful for the excellent care he received there from the staff.
Joseph was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, uncle and friend to all those who knew and loved him. He loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren and was proud of each and every one of them. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret; his daughters Faith McMillan (Mike), Bonnie Taylor (Vince) and Elaine Moss; his sons Paul Taylor (Thelma), John Taylor (Mildred), Doug Taylor (Ann), Tom Taylor (Nadine); grandchildren Patty, Stephen, Susan, Kathy, Alan, Scott, Tracy, Tanya, Judy, Kevin, Karen, Sharon, Brian, Pamela, Amie, Jessica and Mike; twenty one great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren; his brother Clifford and his wife Barb, two sister in laws Ethel and Gertrude, his son in law Ralph Hawked as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
