Obituary of Murray Garth Northrup

Murray was born on August 3, 1942. He was the first child for Garth and Alice (O'Donnell) Northrup. The family was later joined by a sister Monica and a brother Brian. Murray was an avid outdoor person for most of his adult life. Spring was spent fishing and ever fall, hunting became his passion. He would spend hunting season plus the month before and the month after at their family camp where he and his father spent many seasons while growing up. In the early 90's, Murray bought the camp and many happy times were had there with family and friends. Another great love for Murray was music. He loved to play guitar and sing. Over the years a lot of time was spent this way. Being musical meant Murray had great rhythm and everyone claimed he could dance like a top. Murray married Marjorie Cummings on February 23, 1974 and in 1977, they welcomed the arrival of their daughter Amy which enabled Murray to excel in one more area; he was a caring and devoted Dad. For most of Murray's married years, he worked for NB Power. It was a good and steady job and insured that Marj and Amy had everything they needed. All went well for years. In 1998 Murray became a grandfather. Cody Garth immediately claimed Murray's heart. On October 16, 2003, a second grandson, Shane Michael was born and on August 26, 2005, Luc Stephen arrived. Murray loved these boys and he loved to spend time with them. His wheelchair became their wheelbarrow as Gramp would proudly whiz them around the house. Murray was a great worker, a fun person and a wonderful provider. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be sadly missed by all. Murray is survived by his wife Marjorie (Cummings), his daughter Amy Rose and Stephen Flemming; three grandchildren: Cody, Shane and Luc; his sister Monica Elliott and her husband Lynn; his brother Brian Northrup and his wife Pam as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Murray Garth Northrup, of Sussex passed away at the Sussex Health Center on April 26, 2013. He was predeceased by his father Garth, his mother Alice and his infant son Mark Garth. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176) from where visitation will be held on Monday, April 29, from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 10:00am. Interment will take place in Wards Creek Cemetery.
