Obituary of Roy Stanley McPhee

Roy Stanley McPhee was born on August 29, 1955 to Clement and Frances McPhee, he was the oldest of 7 children born into this happy home. Roy grew up in Penobsquis, attending the Frank S. Keirdstead Memorial School, and very briefly also attended the Crosswinds school. All who knew Roy, knew he was a people-person. He loved to greet and help out anyone he came in contact with. He regularly would visit the various homes in the neighborhood, often stopping for a cup of tea and a quick chat. Despite some of the challenges Roy faced, he was very aware of the needs of those around him; doing whatever he could to help others. Whether it was with the cutting and stacking of wood, shoveling snow, or watching over the children as they got off the bus each day, Roy was gentle spirit with a giving attitude. He was fascinated with machinery, and could name almost every truck and piece of equipment that went by his home. He was a familiar visitor on many work sites, usually wearing a white foreman's hard hat. However, most of the time, Roy could be seen wearing one of his familiar ball-caps, and going about his regular routines. Roy wasn't one to complain. For instance Roy was badly injured in a car accident, breaking many bones in his legs, yet despite his cast, he was determined to keep doing what he normally did, even if it meant dragging himself up the stairs backwards. Roy had certain things that he loved. Things like: chopping and piling wood, visits to Tim Hortons, and watching specific programs on the T.V., like the soap operas, Dukes of Hazard, Hawaii 5-0, Little House on the Prarie, Weather and News reports, and anything related to Police, Rescue or big machinery on the Discovery Channel. In recent years, Roy also grew to enjoy watching baseball, but wasn't that impressed with Hockey Night in Canada. Roy also enjoyed those occasions when people would invite him along to go hunting or fishing and would come back from those adventures with many stories; which he loved to tell over and over again. Roy was a fan of country music. He loved to sit and listen to his dad play his guitar and sing. He loved George Jones and Willie Nelson, and most of the country music legends of days past. It was not uncommon to see Roy sitting by the radio in his house, listening to the country music station or traveling over to the legion in Havelock to hear local talent strumm'in and sing'in.. Roy also loved children, and saw himself as one of their protectors. He was always so pleased whenever someone would ask him to help out with some babysitting. Roy was a bit of a prankster and loved to laugh. He would often find creative things to do with drinking straws, and with the clips from bread bags. He enjoyed blowing up and bursting the bags that contained the newspaper flyers each week. Some of his fondest memories were the trips to Martin Head where he would collect the wood for the fire and help to make spectacular bon fires on the beach. According to Roy's family some of the most important things to Roy were: Family, Wood, Music and helping people. Specifically: Barry and Marven, Chris, Colby, Roma, Uncle Randy and George, along with a long list of others were some of the people he enjoyed the most. The words that one would use describe Roy were: Loving, Kind, Giving, a sweet-heart, compassionate, always apologizing, always saying "Thanks for coming", sincere, a story teller, loved to laugh, loved food and cold/strong tea with a little milk. Roy's life light was seen and felt by many. He will be lovingly remembered by his three sisters: Sue Drisdelle and her husband Val, Patti Doody and her husband Ralph and Jami McLaughlan and her husband Dwayne; his two brothers: Eddie McPhee and Barry McPhee (Marven Bradstreet); as well as several nieces and nephews: Katlyn, Cole, Carter, Brody, Kyra and Parker. Mr. Roy Stanley McPhee of Penobsquis passed away on April 30, 2013 at the age of 57. He was prececeased by his father Tid and his brother Corey. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB. A service celebrating Roy's life will be held from Penobsquis United Baptist Church on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 11:00am. The interment will take place at Cardwell Cemetery.
