Obituary of Joseph Bowes

Joseph Bowes was born on September 25, 1926 in the county of Durham, England. He was the youngest child of Thomas and Elizabeth (Cutts) Bowes. He was only 18 months old when the family moved to Canada. He went to school in a one room school house in Lower Kars. He loved being outside and playing, especially soccer. Joe was always and remained very close to his sister May and her family. He visited them every Victoria Day weekend and at Thanksgiving. Throughout his life, Joe worked in sawmills and lumber camps. Eventually he went to work at Canada Packers for Maple Leaf Foods and he retired from there after 25 years of service. He met and married Florence Lillian Gailey after a four year courtship. They were married on October 3, 1964 in the Salvation Army. Joe and Florence were both Salvation Army soldiers for a number of years. They went on to have their only child, Catherine Ann whom they both adored. Florence passed away in September 2000 and life was never the same for Joe. He had a strong faith and this carried him through the difficult times. He attended the Sussex Wesleyan Church for many years. He loved attending all church services where the Gospel was preached. He especially loved the old hymns. Joe loved animals. He had many pets throughout the years but his special "pride and joy" was Coco, his American Cocker Spaniel also known as his "Champion" show dog. Joseph will always be remembered for his kind and quiet ways. Joseph will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Catherine, his niece and his several nephews. Joe was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is predeceased by his brother George and by his sisters: Elsie, Nora and May. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176). There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Joseph's life will be held from Sussex Wesleyan Church on Thursday, September 08, 2011 at 11:00 am. The interment will take place at Kirk Hill Cemetery.
